The Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation administers and oversees the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program in Pennsylvania. The bureau is responsible for resolving various problems, such as mine fires, mine subsidence, dangerous high walls and other hazards which have resulted from past mining practices and for abating or treating acid mine drainage from abandoned mines. The bureau is part of the Bureau of Mining and Reclamation, which is affiliated with the Department of Environmental Protection. It provides insurance coverage to property owners for properties located within coal mining regions of Pennsylvania. It offers online access to a variety of remining incentive forms and applications, such as fact sheets, applications for remining operator assistance and form letters for bond credit programs. The bureau has a wide array of programs and services, including blasting and explosives, underground mining, bonding, industrial minerals, permitting and remining services. The Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation is located in Harrisburg, Pa.
