Medical Weight Loss
If you take daily medications, check with the physician about what to do the morning of your surgery regarding your medication. If you take heart or blood pressure medicines every morning, you may take these the morning of surgery with a TINY sip of water. In most cases you should stop taking Aspirin, blood thinners, or weight loss medicine at least 7 days prior to surgery.

The mission of Todd A Moffatt, M.D. Surgery is to provide patients and the community with the safest, most innovative and advanced surgical procedures and treat them compassionately and respectfully. Dr Moffatt and his staff pledge to use their skills and training to improve the lives entrusted to their hands. The office of Todd a Moffatt, M.D. Surgery provides the highest level of general surgery care available for Central Texas residents. After nearly 15 years of practice in Waco, Dr Moffatt opened his own private practice in 2010, which allows for more efficient and personal care to patients.
Wound Care
If you have a large white gauze dressing covering your wounds, these may be removed the day following surgery. Underneath will be small white steri-strips or dermabound. These should be left alone. The steri-strips usually fall off by themselves within two weeks of surgery and the dermabound will just disappear. If you have had a SILS procedure your dressing will have a date written on it and you may remove it then. Do not attempt to remove any staples or sutures that are in place until you return to see the doctor. It is not unusual to have firmness underneath the incision. This will gradually disappear in time. You may gently shower the day after surgery. Try not to remove the white steri-strips. You may take a tub bath 7 days after surgery.

You may have closed suction drains. These drains are used to remove fluid from the wound. It is important when handling these drains to wash your hands before and after emptying the drains. Please keep a written log of drain output (the number of cc’s in a 24 hour period). This helps us to know when to remove your drains. Once the drainage has diminished to our satisfaction, then we will remove these drains. If you have had a plastic surgery reconstruction, the plastic surgeon will remove these drains.
Breast Surgery
For the first week following breast surgery it is important to avoid disturbing the breast incision. You may return to work and resume normal activities as tolerated. Please wear a good supporting sports brassiere during the day and avoid activity which would cause movement within the breast, such as jogging or jazzercise. You may return to walking for exercise following surgery and should be able to return to jogging two weeks after surgery. You should avoid total immersion in a swimming pool or other body of water for at least two weeks following surgery. Also, avoid anything that may bump the breast and cause injury.

He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Surgical Society, Christian Medical Society, Parkland Surgical Society, McLennan County Medical society, Board of Trustees Providence Health Center, Board of Trustees and Executive Committee Member at Fish Pond Surgical Center. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and was President of Medical Staff at Providence Health Center in 2007. His areas of expertise include laparoscopic surgery, endocrine surgery, surgical oncology, breast and colorectal surgery.

You may experience transient sore throat, hoarseness, or mild difficulty swallowing – all of which should resolve with time. Please use the prescription pain medication given to you at the hospital. Be sure to take narcotic pain medication with food so as not to upset your stomach. Should you experience nausea during the post-operative period, this is usually related to the pain medication and can be treated by stopping the pain medication. You can gradually taper this over to Tylenol. If you have had no past problems with ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding or allergies to aspirin, you can use Ibuprofen. Do not drive while you are taking a prescription pain medication.
