Are you eligible for a Federal Tax Credit? Part of the Stimulus Plan signed by President Obama on February 17th, 2009 included a tax credit of up to $1,500 for upgrading your home comfort system (furance and air conditioner) with high efficient Energy Star equipment. By installing qualified equipment, you as a homeowner, may be qualified to claim 30% of the installed cost (up to a $1,500 limit). Tax Credits may be available for the installation of higher efficiency central air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, gas furnaces and boilers, water heaters, energy-efficient windows and skylights, as well as insulation, duct sealing and infiltration reduction. Specific energy efficiency requirements apply. The home improvement project must be completed and ready for use between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010. The $1,500 limit is for all improvements that are made during the two-year term.
