Del Mar squid packing plant in Watsonville should have purchased an electronic time card matching, instead of spending money on several hydraulic tape machines, and cages to hold product.The company continues to use the "sign in sign out" method which pretty much guarantees that several employees will be robbed of work hours every Friday. They have unlimited access to employees, thanks to the many temp agencies that supply them unsuspecting employees, who put up with long grueling hours of hard labor; a day of with a averages to be at least ten hours everyday,but on several occasions twelve hours. You would think that they'd appreciate the workers who show up every day to perform work duties; but actually it's the complete opposite. Del Mar years they employees like "cattle;" and then rob them of well deserved pay. Every Friday, I witnessed several employees with questions about the hours they work. I was recently a victim of this atrocity myself. Del Mar robbed me of a day and a half from my last week of work, because apparently I did sign in. Although I had a good recollection of what I did on those missing days. They refused to pay me. It comes down to one thing...greed.Good ol'fashioned greed. Some of the employees don't fuss because many of them are in documented; or just teenagers, who don't know how to fend for themselves. When I brought my case to office personal I was treated unfairly, and my claim was ignored. I appreciate the opportunity of employment, because most of us have colorful backgrounds, and it is difficult to find work elsewhere. But that doesn't give Del Mar a license to steal. The company would rather by machinery yo increase production...instead of time management equipment or cameras to help us dispute our claims: so that they get richer, while us cattle are being slaughtered.
