Glaucoma
CRVO is also a retinal vascular disease but involves occlusion of the main central retinal vein. Vascular, hematologic, and cardiac disease may predispose individuals to develop CRVO which leads to leakage of blood and fluid into the retina. In many cases the resultant poor circulation (ischemia) can lead to abnormal blood vessel formation in the iris (rubeosis) with painful increases in eye pressure (neovascular glaucoma).
Ophthalmology
Dr. Sastry has presented research at national and international meetings and has published numerous articles on ophthalmology and the prevention of eye disease.
Macular Degeneration
When my general ophthalmologist told me I have macular degeneration I was devasted. He referred me to Dr. Sastry who has performed eye injections to slow down the disease. I was initially nervous about receiving an injection to the eye but Dr. Sastry put me at ease with his calm, professional manner and gave me the treatments right in his office and they were virtually painless.
Laser Eye Surgery
Macular Puckers develop as a result of contracture of an abnormal scar tissue membrane (epiretinal membrane, ERM) which grows over the surface to the macula. This causes wrinkling of the macula and subsequent distortion of central vision. These ERMs may grow as a result of aging, diabetes, trauma, inflammation, or previous eye surgery.
Cataracts
As a retired doctor myself I am very particular where I get my medical care. I originally had cataract surgery by another ophthalmologist and developed a severe intraoperative complication and was referred to Dr. Sastry on an urgent basis. He and his office staff were outstanding. I was seen the same day in his office and was in the operating room that same night where Dr. Sastry performed Vitrectomy Surgery bringing back my vision. If it wasn’t for Dr. Sastry’s world class surgical skills I would not have the vision I have now.

Eye Exam
At each eye exam visit your medical history and vision will be taken and your pupils will be dilated with drops. Dilation of the pupils allows for complete examination of the retina. These drops may cause temporary blurring of vision and sensitivity to light. We encourage you to bring sunglasses to wear and have friend or relative bring you for your visit.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease which affects persons with diabetes. It is the leading cause of new cases of blindness over all ages groups. Diabetes weakens the lining of the blood vessels in the retina causing leaking of fluid, lipid (cholesterol) and blood into the retina and macula. It also causes decrease in circulation to the retina (ischemia). In more advanced stages diabetes leads to abnormal new vessels called neovascularization which can rupture, bleed and stimulate scar tissue formation with retinal detachment.
