"My husband is in his second week of therapy post knee replacement and he is doing wonderful. Thanks to a great surgeon and Kimberly at BPT he is improving daily. He went back to work today just as little over two weeks out of surgery, granted its desk work, but he’s back. Kimberly has been amazing and she is so knowledgeable and explains everything so well. Chris has worked with us once and he was great too. We came upon a couple of recommendations, including my father who had rehab post ankle surgery, and I couldn’t be happier. "I initially chose Bham PT for convenience, but also with approval of my first ortho doc for my knees. Chris was great for prehab and rehab on 2 knee replacements in 2020. Now (2022), I find that Chris is high on the 'good' list for the ortho surgeon who did my total shoulder joint replacement. He has the ability to make you feel like you're his most important and favorite patient, even though I know I am one of many. The depth of his knowledge, skill, and experience is further evidenced by PT schools sending interns to train with him. He even laughs at my dumb jokes!"

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is the use of a metal tool to loosen up the skin, fascia and underlying soft tissues. It can be very effective for many musculoskeletal conditions such as tennis elbow, muscle strains, and muscle tightness surrounding surgical sites.

Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is the use of the therapist’s hands in the treatment of the patient. This is usually in the form of soft tissue mobilization or joint mobilization. In soft tissue mobilization, different massage techniques are applied in specific directions to the dysfunctional tissues to loosen adhesions, realign healing fibers, decrease pain and swelling, and calm spasm. They can also be used to lengthen tight muscles.

If you have muscle spasm and tightness, soft tissue mobilization can relax and lengthen the muscle. It can be used to soften and lengthen scars, allowing joints to move better. Soft tissue mobilization helps pain such as low back and neck pain, rotator cuff pain, and plantar fasciitis. Joint mobilization is used to regain motion lost after surgery, for example after total joint replacement, ACL reconstruction or shoulder surgery. It is also used to improve joint mobility in the spine.
