Dr. Edgar Ekure graduated from the University of Benin in Nigeria, where he obtained his Bachelors and Doctor of Optometry degrees with honors. He further obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Vision Research from Nova Southeastern University where he excelled, becoming the first graduate clinical vision research student to obtain the president's research grant award for his seminal study on: The Global Summation of Radial Frequency Patterns and the Effect of Transient Glare on Shape Discrimination. Dr, Ekure is a published researcher and has presented lectures at both national and international scientific conferences. His Clinical interest is in primary care optometry with emphasis on contact lens practice, glaucoma and neuro-optometry. Dr. Edgar Ekure has been practicing since 1992. Dr. Ekure is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

To help prevent sports-related eye injuries, athletes should use protective athletic eyewear whether or not prescription eyewear is needed. One choice is a sports frame with prescription or non-prescription polycarbonate lenses. Baseball or softball players who are hit in or near the eye, or suffer a blow to the head, should seek immediate care at a hospital emergency room or from an eye care professional.

Glaucoma
The Glaucoma Center at Roberts Eyecare Associates is dedicated to the early identification and treatment of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a disease of the eye associated with increased internal pressure resulting in damage to the optic nerve and irreversible loss of vision. The disease generally evolves gradually, the result of aging or medications, but can rapidly develop from an eye injury or infection.

Cataract Surgery
Our practice fully participates in the Medicare program. We accept assignment of benefits on behalf of each eligible patient. The eye health examination is a fully covered service under the Medicare program. However, as mandated by Federal law, the refraction part of the vision section of your exam is a non-covered service. Each Medicare patient will be charged a seperate fee for the refraction. This charge must be paid for at the time of service during your visit. Unless, immediately following cataract surgery, there is no longer an eyewear benefit under the Medicare program. The purchase of frames, lenses, lens options and coatings is the responsibility of each Medicare patient.

Experimental: Drug-dispensing contact lenses are under development dispensing medications in controlled doses. Also, there are other medications under investigation that were originally developed for other conditions, Alzheimer's and Multiple Sclerosis, that are showing some promise.
