Myopia (nearsightedness) is a growing problem – both literally and figuratively. More than just causing blurry distance vision, myopia is a degenerative disease that causes the eye to grow too long. This lengthening of the eye significantly increases the risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, macular disease, and cataracts. Myopia is also a worldwide epidemic with more children becoming nearsighted than ever before. Projections forecast that fully half of the world’s population will be myopic by 2050. Fortunately, we can significantly slow the progression of myopia that occurs during childhood, therefore greatly reducing the risk of sight-threatening complications later in life. We believe in a proactive approach to myopia management, and our practice offers comprehensive programs designed to keep children seeing their best and healthy over the long term.
Macular Degeneration
Tullahoma Vision Associates believes in comprehensive care for patients of all ages. As primary eyecare providers, we can treat and manage almost any problem involving the eyes or vision. Dr. McBride and Dr. Blanks are therapeutically certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease in addition to providing expert vision care. We treat eye infections (including an in-office treatment for highly contagious “pink eye”), eye injuries, foreign bodies, glaucoma, eye allergies, inflammations of the eye, dry eye, styes, and many other eye diseases. Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK is a common laser eye surgery used to treat refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Most patients benefit from LASIK as a lasting replacement for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Before undergoing LASIK surgery, patients will need to attend a consultation to determine if they are a candidate for LASIK. During this consultation, we will look at the patient’s eye health to determine the best vision correction option for their needs and how much corneal tissue will need to be removed and reshaped. Patients who do not qualify for LASIK might qualify for another laser eye surgery, like PRK or LASEK.
