Paternity
Divorce and paternity cases usually leave everyone broke, angry, and exhausted. Children need both parents, but courts often don't see it that way, despite their own explicit policies to promote shared parenting. See, for example, this Massachusetts official court booklet called Planning for Shared Parenting
Guardianship
If in the course of a divorce, guardianship or other Probate and Family Court matter, if the judge believes that a child may be suffering abuse or neglect, that judge can order a care and protection case to be opened right then and there from the bench, or order the children to be brought in and turned over to DCF.
Spousal Support
The big struggle is over money: Child support, alimony, pensions, the house, savings. She is whining about how will she take care of the children unless she gets adequate support. Your job is to fight her for every penny. Make it painful, and don't ever let up. If you give an inch, it will be seen as weakness, and she will just try to get even more.
Child Abuse
The DCF snitch network - meaning their "child abuse hotline" - is probably the most brilliant idea that the child abuse bureaucrats have ever had. The concept was developed in the federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), sponsored by the Marxist Senator Walter Mondale way back in 1974.

Criminal Defense
Real child abusers should go to prison. And the traditional due process protections of criminal law are more than enough to separate the true abusers from the falsely accused. Just because O.J. was acquitted of murder does not mean we should dispose of all due process. Likewise, just because some abusers will get away does not mean we should take away all children.
Sex Crimes
If the investigator finds actual abuse or neglect, he or she "supports" the report, and an administrative case is opened. If it is serious, they will have a conference with the legal department, and decide whether to get a court order to kidnap the children. If a crime, particularly a sexual assault on a child is alleged, they will make a referral to the local district attorney for criminal prosecution.

A criminal case at the same time, such as a violation of a restraining order, an assault and battery, or a false allegation of sexual abuse.

Right now, I am taking a limited number of cases in the family and juvenile law areas, usually the really high-conflict ones where the wheels are coming off, in any court in the Commonwealth. Restraining Order
Restraining orders are about 90% politics and 10% law. Courts issue them far too easily, because they arise out of a political belief system, not from our traditional notions of due process and legal fairness. If you are to successfully fight an order, you need to know about the unstated political ideas driving the whole system.
Kidnapping
The next thing that happens after your children are in captivity, is that you are given what is called a "72 hour hearing", which is supposed to happen within 72 hours after the kidnapping. At that hearing, DCF has to show, by a preponderance of the evidence, (meaning more likely than not, basically 51%), that the children have been seriously abused or neglected by you, OR that they are likely to be seriously abused and neglected if not kept out of your home, and that DCF has made reasonable efforts to keep them in your home.

(These programs use extortion and coercion to extract an admission from the participants that they are abusers, with the threat that they may go to jail and lose their families forever if they don't admit it. Either they must admit to being a batterer, which makes them guilty, or deny it, and become a "batterer in denial," which also means that they are guilty!
