General Info: Our doctors perform comprehensive eye exams including refraction and dilation of your pupils when indicated. A comprehensive exam can detect up to 16 different eye and general health conditions and gives your doctor a direct view of your vascular system (arteries and veins). Many eye diseases do not have obvious signs until significant damage has occurred. Vision Care Direct recommends that our members have a comprehensive eye exam every 12 months.

Laser Eye Surgery
The Laser Eyecare Center at Cockrell Eyecare is proud to offer the latest advancement in LASIK technology, iLASIK. The â€œiâ€ in iLASIK stands for IntraLase which is a completely blade-free approach to LASIK vision correction. With iLASIK, a corneal flap is made using an ultra-fast, IntraLase femtosecond laser. Then an excimer laser is used to correct the vision to the patientâ€™s unique specifications through a technology called iDesign CustomVue Wavefront-guided LASIK. This is a truly custom procedure based on the patientâ€™s unique prescription and vision dynamics. Traditional LASIK uses a handheld device called a microkeratome to create the initial corneal flap, and uses the patients glasses prescription to determine the correction but with iLASIK, the procedure is a complete blade-free full laser procedure with a more customized visual correction.
Cataracts
Cataracts is a disease of the eye that results in the clouding of the lens of the eyeball. Cataracts prevent clear images from appearing on the eyeâ€™s retina; causing mild, moderate, even severe blurred vision.
Cataract Surgery
Typically an eye disorder associated with aging (over half of the people in America over age 80 have either had a cataract or cataract surgery), cataracts generally occur later in life as the lens structure within the human eye changes and gets older. In addition to age, other risk factors that lead to cataracts include smoking, UV overexposure and diabetes.
Eye Exam
Routine eye exams are important, regardless of your age or physical health. During a complete eye exam, your eye doctor will not only determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.

Lung Cancer
People are also surprised to know that the eye is a potential place for metastasis in women with breast cancer. Eye metastases, or the development of secondary malignant growths in and around the eyes, are a rare event in cancer patients however, breast cancer is the most common primary site in women. For men, lung cancer is more common for metastasis to the eye.
