I came to Wings To Go having never been to the franchise before. After taking my time to look over the menu, I opted for the Buffalo Style Chicken Tender Sandwich combo (drink and fries included). Normally when I go to a place who's name suggests it has a niche market (chicken wings) I order the specialty. I thought the buffalo chicken sandwich would allow me to still stay true to what Wings To Go purportedly does best - spicy/flavored chicken. After a 15 minute wait I was handed my dinner. When I opened the container I was immediately disappointed. The sandwich was a rather bland looking sub. The fried chicken was dumped on the bread with some buffalo sauce sprinkled on. The sandwich was advertised to come with bleu cheese, I did not see any. There was a thin white sauce without any hint of bleu cheese soaked on the side of the bread, that could have been it. It was almost as if you took blue cheese, the kind without any actual cheese, and watered it down. There also was a sprinkling of lettuce and tomatoes. Under and around the sandwich were some fries. The no-refill soda I received was watered down and flat. Since this is more of a taste testing contest than a beauty contest, I held out hope that the food was going to taste better than it looked.



First, the fries. The fries were slightly crispy and seasoned well. They were actually pretty good. After scarfing a couple of them down, I moved on to the sandwich. I picked up the sub and the filling immediately began falling out the other side. The sub was not cut-through, but the bread was so dry that it broke apart upon being being closed together. I took a bite and the first thought that came to my mind was - flat. This was a boring, watery, flat sandwich that was a far cry from spicy. The meal continued to be a messy struggle of dry bread falling apart with filling dropping out. I actually opted to eat the chicken separately. Overall it was very poor.



Service:



Service, like the food was flat. I walked in and was immediately asked if was ready to order. No smile, no welcome, not much of anything. I informed the guy at the cash register that I was going to need a minute and he walked away to take care of some tasks. Another guy comes up and asks if I have been helped and I told him I have; at least I am getting attention. Finally the first guy comes up and asks if I am ready, I give him my order which he rings up at $9.97. 15 minutes later he comes to my table with the order and says, 'have a nice day.' That pretty much sums up the service. It was efficient and reasonably quick, but not friendly or interesting at all. If I was going to the DMV to order new license plates I would be OK with that, but at a restaurant I expect more.



Ambiance:



The décor and atmosphere of Wings To Go is OK. Some TVs, a pool table, and some sports related pictures and jerseys. It looked reasonably clean and was not cluttered - that is a good thing. Overall, I would say it was neutral, not interesting, just there. I do appreciate cleanliness, so I am going to say it was average.



Price:



I think the price for the food was a bad value. The best part of the meal was the fries. I knew from the moment I opened the container that it was not a $10 sandwich combo, not even close. The combo would have been more correctly priced at $6.99. I would still think the sandwich was below average, but the overall value would not have been as bad.



Overall Value:



Overall, Wings To Go was below average. The price and food were below average. The service was a little less than average. The ambiance was average.
