Overall

Very poor service, dishonest

A Cal Pest control's sales technicians are not honest. Service is very poor. Despite the bi-monthly spray, ant problem at my house only got worse.

Insects and Spiders

Ants
Carpenter Ants are very common pests in American homes. They are typically black in color (but can also be red, yellow, or brown), large - ¼ to ¾ of an inch in size, and the colony begins with a fertilized Queen and can reach numbers in the thousands. They are usually found in damp wood, where they form 'nests' or 'galleries'.
Spiders
Outside, brown recluse spiders are usually found around rocks, piles of inner tubes, utility boxes, under bark etc. Inside the home they can be found in most undisturbed places. They are commonly found in boxes, among papers, and in seldom used clothing and shoes.
Termites
Fleas
All dog and cat owners - at one time or another - are likely to need advice on ridding their pet of fleas. Fortunately, toxic pesticides and ineffective flea collars are not needed. By combing and bathing the pet, cleaning its bedding area, and increased vacuuming of the rug, you can achieve effective, low risk flea control.

"A Cal Pest Control Services has provided services at my residence for more thant five years. Among other things, they were the only pest control service to effectively remove a beehive in our ceiling void on the second floor of our home. I found their work to be thorough, competent, and without defect whatsoever. In fact, we have had no further problems from bees. Unfortunately, other extermination services over the years were not as effective.
Wasps
The key to identifying paper wasps is the shape of the nest -- a round, upside-down paper comb that is attached by a single stalk to a horizontal surface in a protected location. This paper nest resembles an umbrella, lending to these wasps nickname, "umbrella wasps." Most paper wasp nests are located in exposed areas beneath soffits, in the corners of windows, under awnings, under porches, and beneath decks. These wasps, however, will also nest within voids and other protected sites, such as gas grills, electric outlet boxes, hose reels, attics, and crawl spaces. They often enter attics through holes in the soffits, attic vent screens, and underneath shingles.
Ticks
Ticks are difficult to control, therefore the services of an experienced professional are recommended. Treatments may be necessary in areas of the yard where ticks are found. Ticks require a blood meal at each stage of life in order to grow and the female will engorge herself with blood to obtain the nourishment necessary to produce the thousands of eggs she will lay soon.
Yellow Jackets
Yellow jackets are social insects that live in colonies that can contain thousands of individuals. Colonies are usually started by a single queen in the early spring, and are very small for the first couple of months. By midsummer, a colony located on or near a house is usually large enough to become a nuisance. These wasps will aggressively attack when their nest is disturbed, and can inflict painful stings. Unlike the honeybee, which stings only one time and then dies, a single yellow jacket can sting many times. Yellow jackets are scavengers and can be beneficial when located in a wooded area or a field. Colonies located in or near a home, however, can pose a threat to the persons living in the house. When this situation is discovered, the colony or colonies should be eliminated.
Mites
Mites that migrate away from the nests may be found anywhere in houses and buildings, but are most abundant in the vicinity of nests that were built on or in the house. Sparrows, starlings and pigeons are the birds most often associated with bird mite infestations in buildings. Bird mites can bite humans but are not a health threat. They are mostly a nuisance and annoyance. Bird mites do not attack nor harm stored foods, plants or household furnishings. They will probably infest pet birds.

Raccoons
Raccoons are cute critters when they are young, and raccoons do not really bother you when they are older unless you raise chickens or they get into your house. Inside raccoons can do a lot of damage. They are also notorious for getting into trash. If they become a nuisance, we trap them alive with hav-a-heart traps using sardines as bait, then release them in the woods. Mothballs have no effect as a repellency.

Introduced as a species to North America, the house sparrow quickly spread across the country due to its lack of natural enemies and its adaptive traits. Its ability to nest in urban structures, eat urban scraps and a large breeding capacity are some of these adaptive traits. They are boisterous, intelligent birds who roost in noisy flocks on branches of city trees, ivy covered walls and under eaves of houses.
Starlings
Starlings rank just behind pigeons and sparrows as an urban bird pest. Starlings can be a nuisance in both urban and rural areas due to their nesting, eating and living habits. When the bird is in its flocking phase, thousands of starlings often overwhelm buildings and trees. Large scale buildup of feces from these flocks can lead to structural damage. The uric acid in the feces can corrode stone, metal and masonry. Gutters and drainage pipes clogged with starling nests often backup, causing extensive water damage. The bacteria, fungal agents and parasites in the feces also pose a health risk.
Crows
Crows are frequently a big agricultural pest bird due to their fondness for corn and other farm crops, but they are a minor urban pest compared to the pigeon, starling or house sparrow. These birds can overwhelm trees, creating a lot of noise and harassing people and animals in the vicinity which can be a nuisance to the suburban resident. Furthermore, like any pest bird, dropping buildup can lead to structural damage from the uric acid while also posing a health risk due to the harborage of disease.
Pigeons
Feral pigeons are responsible for untold millions of dollars of damage each year in urban areas. The uric acid in their feces is highly corrosive. Also, debris from roosting flocks can build up, backing up gutters and drains thus causing damage to roofs and other structures. Extensive damage to air conditioning units and other roof top machinery is commonplace. There are also other economic costs that can be associated from pigeon’s taking up residence such as slip and fall liability and projection of an unclean, dirty company image. Besides physical damage, the bacteria, fungal agents and ectoparasites found in pigeon droppings sometimes represent a health risk.

Rats
Norway rats live in close association with people. They are primarily nocturnal in habit and are very cautios. They burrow to make nests under buildings and other structures, beneath concrete slabs, along stream banks, around ponds, in garbage dumps, and at other locations where suitable food, water, and shelter are present. In urban or suburban areas they live in and around residences, in cellars, warehouses, stores, slaughterhouses, docks, and in sewers. Although they can climb, Norway rats tend to inhabit the lower floors of multi-story buildings.
