Hip Hounds

This place is awesome! It is hard to find a facility with so much open indoor room for the dogs and in Texas, where it is super hot or pretty cold much of the year, that is very important! Most kennels leave your dog locked up except for a couple 5 minute potty breaks a day (I know, I worked at one), but Hip Hounds makes sure your dog gets lots of exercise and interaction. The staff are very friendly and have always been very on top of things. The facility looks and smells very nice. It is also obvious that they care about dogs, not just making money. The owner even takes in some foster dogs and donates food to a program to help homeless dogs.



I can't believe the one reviewer had the nerve to post that this place was horrible when their ONLY complaint was that they showed up repeatedly AFTER posted business hours and the staff had put their dog in boarding and gone home. Hip Hounds even came back at 9pm that night to give them their dogs and they still complained?! Wow. They said nothing about their dogs not receiving great care, but they are on here bashing a great kennel, which is upsetting because this place is awesome and I have worked at kennels where I would NEVER leave my dogs.



Hip Hounds is open 7-7, which is super convenient. Most places aren't open that late! This is a wonderful place hidden back in a private area. Check it out. They even offer a special where you can get your first two nights of boarding or days of doggie daycare FREE to try before you buy. How can you beat that?! Check out Yelp. This place has a 5 star rating on there with 15 reviewers.

What a disappointment!!! The facilities aren't bad, but the customer service and attention to details are awful. To me trust is paramount when selecting a doggy daycare, and this place has lost my trust.

My husband and I have been bringing our two labs here for two years now. We have had decent care for our dogs, but the customer service is ridiculous. My husband and I both work late hours and rely on services like this to take care of our dogs during our late hours. We also rely on the 7 to 7 schedule and work to the last possible minute. One night my husband showed up a few minutes late (after calling and calling with no answer) and found the entire place locked up, lights out, and no person in sight. We had no clue what had been done to our dogs, and read nowhere about a policy concerning lateness. Furious, we called the manager who refused to return and finally the owner who came out at 9 o'clock to give us our dogs and referred to this as a "big accommodation." I hardly see this as an accommodation when neither my husband or I were notified of any such policy nor were we called for consent to lock up our dogs for boarding. Our dogs were just locked up and expected to be picked up the next day and pay for boarding. After scouring my contract for anything related to late pick up I found NOTHING. My husband got into an argument instigated by the manager after my husband questioned their unwritten late policy. I had contact with the owner through a series of e-mails where she apologized for the behavior of the manager, but never once attempted to rectify the situation stating..."I'm sorry our hours are an inconvenience for you," and "Maybe you should try Taurus." At any other business establishment, employees are clocked to work at least 30 minutes past closing time, not the minute the business closes. When you are traveling from downtown Austin to Pflugerville and hit unexpected traffic, you are bound to hit unexpected traffic every now and then, but when treated as if we have broken some sort of policy and act outside of a signed contract, it is unforgivable. Our dogs are like our children, and I would expect a company like this to be understanding of that. In her last e-mail she stated that she was a lawyer and was "confused" by my "threats of slander/defamation of character" after telling her I would let the public know about our experience with Hip Hounds and says she is "under no obligation to give notices." DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS TO HIP HOUNDS! There are too many other businesses with the exact same amenities and MUCH friendly staff and clearly stated policies and procedures!
