I do not care for Mercy. I know that they do some great things but I went in for the CT Scan. My CT Scan came back with a calcium score of 478. They recommended that I see a cardiologist. This is where the problems start. Without any risk factors of heart disease it was recommended that I have further testing. I submit my insurance and they tell me my out of pocket cost would be $1684 which I paid up front. Now I am getting bills. about $1100. Then I find out that the CT Scan is not a very acurate test.
I went to another doctor for a physical and he said that I should have never been subjected to the extreme high dosage of radiation that the CT has without any risk factors. Now I am ignoring the test and the doctors recommendations which cost a forturne. Mercy is using the CT Scan to generate business. It is advertised at $50 as a screening for heart disease. Bad Bad Bad.
I tried to talk to the cardiologist at Mercy about lifestyle changes and retesting. He did mention that I should never do the CT scan again but did not warn of the radiation risk. Now I read that the radiation can cause later a risk of leukemia and lymphoma.

Thank you Mercy, you are wrong with this broad testing without some screening method.

This hospital system has the most confusing and rude billing policies I have ever experienced. I am never asked for a co-pay up front when I see the doctor. The next thing I know, about a month later, I will receive a paper bill that tells me I need to make payment arrangements, as if I were immediately delinquent, despite it being the first bill. I usually go online and pay the bill and mutter about how rude this stupid hospital is, blah blah blah. I check my balance online every month or so just in case.
This last time I was called and told that I was severely behind on paying a $25 bill that I had honestly never seen. Mind you, they will flood you with mail so it is possible I overlooked it. That said, I got online and found no balance due. That was around Thanksgiving. It is now Jan. 12 and I received a letter from a debt collection agency a couple of days ago. Lo and behold, there are three line items now on my balance due sheet on myMercy.com that were not there just a few days ago when I paid another bill. And those three items have all been "written off" as bad debt. I am furious.
This hospital has some good doctors and nurses, but they also have some of the most disinterested and incompetent medical and administrative staff I've ever met. My father has been in the ER following a routine procedure and waited to be discharged for up to 5 hours after being told numerous times it would be just a few more minutes. This is the most minor of infractions against my family, dating to when I had my son 20 years ago and they were still St. Mary's. This billing thing is the last straw for me. I go to NW Medical now.

They took over 30 minutes to get my daughter who is 1 in who cried for over 6 hours to never see a doctor and be told multiple different cause which none were correct and then they wouldn't release her test results to us bc hippa. They gave us pill antibiotics and someone else's rx and discharge papers. I asked for a pediatrician to come see her and he refused to come down. I took her back to the hospital the next day to get her checked out and find out what is wrong and get the right meds.

I took my husband into the ER due to pain after his motorcycle accident the day before. His pain was at a 8-9. He was barely able to walk. The RN did not show concern. She didn't help onto the bed. She didn't seem warm and caring. She just did what she had to do and left. It took almost 2 hours to be seen by the doctor. Who also didn't show concern and didn't help him on or off the bed. She asked him to put on a gown and she came back an hour later. We spent 6 hours at the hospital! We left with nothing but ointment and soap for his abrasions. After explaining how much he was hurting, he was not prescribed anything that will ease his discomfort. Doctor told him to just take ibuprofen or Tylenol. What kind of doctor would just say that knowing their patient was involved in a motor vehicle accident? He is still in great pain and obviously ibuprofen is not helping. We are going to see another doctor at another hospital who is more sincere and who actually shows concern for their patients.

An ambulance took me to Mercy Hospital. I was having a stroke & since ER only does CAT scans they missed it therefore I was misdiagnosed, sent home. When my husband asked why I was slurring & had no balance to stand, they said it was because they gave me Benadryl. Right! Must have been a boatload dose, Benadryl has never affected me like that before or since. So went home & laid in my bodily fluids for two days. I couldn't walk or talk. Had an MRI the next week. It showed that I had a massive stroke in my cerebellum. A few years later I went to the Mercy ER because I was so weak I couldn't even walk across the room. I waited over an hour but had to leave because we were in the middle of moving. When I went to another ER they had to give me a blood transfusion, I was very anemic. Then I got a bill from Mercy for sitting in their waiting room. Now it's on my credit report as a collection/charge-off. LIVID! Washington Regional & NW Med has a better staff, better care, better everything.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! They make you feel like some kind of thief. They've done the same thing to us with our billing. My daughter gave them her insurance card at her appt. and they said she owed nothing. Then about 4 months later I get a bill from a debt collector! I called them then I called Mercy and we all went back and forth a million times! Mercy finally billed my insurance then sends me another bill saying they didn't pay anything, but Mercy also didn't subtract the network savings amount so I had to send it back with a letter. Then I get another bill for a totally different amount and compare it to my insurance EOB. There were things on my bill that they never even turned into my insurance but they stilled billed me for them. I've had it with them too. I've had some excellent doctors there but whoever is training their billing dept. needs to be retrained by someone who knows what they're doing. It is VERY frustrating to be on this end!!! If you go, insist on going over the billing before you leave and get them to give you a copy of something and a name of who you talked to or prepare for some serious headaches.

Overall
very horrible hospital

First off the horrible experience I had 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my son I was dilated to a 4 they wouldn't keep me so after 4 hours of being there in full blown labor they sent me home I went to another hospital and had my son 13 hours later he was born very sick due to swallowing the fluid he was in ICU for 2 weeks. I tried to go there to get help with an abscessed tooth that is very infected and can kill someone if it gets worse then mine already is. The nurse was very rude to me saying eww yuck and other rude comments they sent me home and said good luck. I will never send anyone to this hospital they shouldn't even be open. Northwest is the only hospital I will use from now on.
