Tree Removal
Wards Tree Service offers a free tree evaluation and risk assessment so you know whether your tree can be saved or if it is necessary to remove your tree. Trees may need to be removed because they are diseased, damaged, overcrowded, or interfere with buildings or walkways.
Stump Grinding and Removal
Stump grinding is the last step in the removal of a tree. Instead of allowing the stump in the ground to re-grow shoots from the living root system the next spring, we use a large grinder to break the stump down into chips. Stumps are ground to a point below the root mass to isolate the roots and prevent ongoing root damage. After we grind a stump, you can plant a new tree in the same location without root binding.
Crown Reduction
Tree topping removes 50% to 100% of the leaf-bearing branches of a tree. Leaves are the source of food for a tree, removing them can temporarily starve the tree. Severe pruning forces latent buds in the trunk below the cut to sprout (commonly called "suckers") in order for the tree to generate more leaves. If the tree does not have the stored energy to do this, it will become weak and may die.

Tree topping is the reduction of a tree's size using heading cuts that shorten limbs or branches back to a stub. This misguided practice is also called heading, tipping, hat racking, and stubbing. The goal of tree toping is to reduce the tree's size to make it safer. Arborists and tree care professionals never offer or perform topping; instead they will assist you in pruning your tree in a healthy manner. ANSI A300 standard define practices for tree care and have been adopted by the Tree Care Industry Association - topping is specifically mentioned as an unacceptable practice.
Tree Mulching
We usually leave the chips for the homeowner as they make excellent mulch or we can optionally clean-up and remove them for you. We can also arrange for someone to backfill and seed or complete your landscaping plans where the stump was.

Wards Tree Service was started by Gary Ward in 1991, after years of experience gained in tree removal while working for a lawn care business. The tree work was a natural outgrowth of his hobby, which was rock climbing. The company was incorporated in 2001 and presently has four full-time employees plus an additional three who work during periods of peak demand. Wards Tree Service, Inc. is both licensed and insured.
