Complete bathroom remodel, including custom vanity, free-standing cabinet, and medicine cabinet. Douglas Fir, reclaimed from an old city hall building, was used for the custom woodwork.

I joined Lawrence Construction in 2000, not long after my brother Michael. My brother and I are both Lead Carpenters and future co-owners. As a Lead Carpenter I love to do tile work and finish carpentry. I take pride in my work and am always focused on making our clients happy.

We specialize in remodels and additions and always look forward to ground-up new construction projects. We work closely with both the design team and the client to deliver the client’s vision in the agreed-upon budget and timeframe.

My first memories of doing construction were as a child growing up on a farm. I remember helping my grandfather as he built a barn and corrals. Later, when I was nine, my uncle was building a new home. He hired me to work part-time at 20¢/hour...big bucks to a nine year old in those days! I kept the site clean, carried lumber, and occasionally pounded a few nails. In 1986, I added a sunroom to the front of a Berkeley home for a wonderful lady who would later become my mother in-law. Other small projects followed from that, leading eventually to Lawrence Construction, Inc. It has always been my goal to be part of a non-exploitive business, one that is supportive of its employees and their families. For many years, the team and I have wanted Lawrence Construction, Inc. to become an employee-owned company, and we are now in the final stages of making that a reality. I am looking forward to becoming a co-owner together with the other dedicated employee-owners.

A unique facet of our company is our custom woodshop. We create everything from built-in cabinetry to furniture to windows and doors. We take pride in our craftsmanship and use quality and sustainable materials. Each piece is custom-built to your home and installed by our own employees, allowing us to provide personal service throughout the process, from concept to completion. We do woodwork in our own shop and also work directly with other local woodworkers to create the best pieces for your home.

From modern decks with wire-cable railings to patios surrounded by built-in planters, we create custom outdoor spaces that look good and hold up over time. We can consult with you to create a custom design, or we can work with the designer of your choice.

“Bob and I met Tom Lawrence and his crew almost 25 years ago, after we bought a rundown brown shingle 4-plex in the Elmwood. Over the years Tom has done many renovation projects on our building and everything he has done has been an unqualified success and a joy for us. We’ve converted knob and tube wiring, added electrical lines, renovated two bathrooms and two kitchens, as well as adding bookcases that look like built-ins, improving the foundation, external stairs, porches, banisters, and patio. If Tom can’t do something he has always made referrals for reliable workers who provide services to his high standard. We love working with Tom and his crews. The day we start a new project is a happy day.”

Carpentry
I have been working with Tom since 1990! I am originally from El Salvador, where I was working in agriculture and with cement. I started working with LCI when I first moved here, and have been here ever since. I enjoy working at each unique jobsite. Each day varies and allows me to use different skills. I especially like doing carpentry work, and love working with the other employees to accomplish a task efficiently. Chatting with my coworkers during lunch or at a party is always fun!
