Pender's went beyond our expectations in quality of work and customer service. Over several years, Pender's restored my family's antique furniture including an oak pedestal table with leaves and chairs, a marble top dining room side cabinet, a drop leaf table, tall secretary, piano, and more. In 2016 we had a significant fire at our home, and a lot of smoke and water damage. I was so happy when Pender's showed up to remove and treat these treasures, and more, including artwork. All items were held during extensive restoration of the home and returned in wonderful condition. We highly recommend Pender's.

Overall

We used Pender's Antiques in 2006 for repair and restoration of numerous items damaged in a move. Damaged items from the move included a dining room table with deep gouges, dining room chairs with broken pieces, dresser base in 7 pieces, deep gouges on a night stand and antique desk. The folks at Pender's Antiques were successful in repair of all of these items to our compete satisfaction. The repair process was lengthy due to the severity of the damage needing correction but the work was fantastic and we were willing to wait to have the job done right. In our situation, due to the number of items they were able to pick up and deliver the items requiring repair. Their staff was very attentive during delivery to not scratch walls or damage anything in my house. I also don't recall any issues with an estimate not matching a final bill. Since my interaction, my brother has used Pender's Antiques for restoration of a house door and the work was completed to his full satisfaction. Pender's Antiques helped me with delivery of furniture in July 2014 and again in February 2015. They were especially careful with heavy items. In February 2015 they delivered items the day after a snow and ice storm. I couldn't have asked for a more reliable business.

Restoration of furniture is often difficult and complex especially when you have an heirloom. This is a business you can count on to do the job right.

Overall
Disrespectful Owner

I will NEVER use Pender's Antiques again and I strongly recommend against supporting this business in any manner.

I paid my deposit on 1/31/14 and the owner, David, said it would take about 4-6 weeks. I called around the end of March and David said it would just be another couple weeks. On 5/27/14 I received a call from the office assistant saying my furniture was ready. This was 4 months after I paid my deposit.

I had just returned to work from maternity leave so with my newborn, my 2 year old and a full time job, picking up my furniture wasn't a top priority. And since they were in no apparent hurry to finish my furniture, why should I be in a hurry to pick it up?

I received 2 more calls and explained the situation. Not once did the office assistant ask for payment, she simply reminded me that my furniture was ready.

And then the call from David came. He began the call by yelling at me, continued to disrespect me by calling me lazy and cursed at me.

Completely unacceptable. They may do good work (although previous reviews say otherwise) but no customer should be treated in this manner and for this reason alone, I will NEVER use Pender's Antiques again.

Overall
I have filed three complaints ...

I have filed three complaints with the Better Business Bureau against Pender Antiques:

1. Sales Presentation did not disclose complete pricing information - Pender Antiques did not provide a complete estimate, and the additional estimate/invoice was almost 71% increase of the original estimate.

2. Improper Collection Practices - Pender Antiques threatened to “remove half of [my] windows if complete payment is not made” and yelled at me for asking about a payment plan. Bullying the customer. The bill was given to me the day before this incident, and Pender Antiques was asked 3 times for an estimate for the additional work.

3. Contract Issue - Business had incomplete estimates as invoices with no terms and conditions. Verbal verifications were nebulous.

There is no question as to the quality of the work that was done or the skills of Pender’s employees. They did a very good job of matching the existing stain and the new windows blend in nicely. The issue is with the business practices, threats and inability to at the very least ballpark an estimate. If I had received this information even after the first day of staining I would have been able to better prepare for the final amount.

Despite the threats, I have made complete payment since the work overall was not in question, and I could not afford any legal support in this matter. I am posting this to alert any new customer of Pender Antiques to expect this negative behavior if the estimate is not complete and any question is raised about payment. Do not trust Pender Antiques, and if anything seems outside of the initial estimate, stop work until the questions or issues are resolved in writing.
