Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Entrapment syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy and peroneal neuropathy occur when peripheral nerves become compressed or entrapped by scar tissue or thickened ligaments. The goal of treatment is to alleviate pain and restore function. The most common treatment provided by the division is carpal tunnel release. In patients who suffer from this repetitive motion disorder, the median nerve becomes compressed in the wrist area. Care begins with minimally invasive treatments such as oral medication, wrist bracing and cortisone injections, all of which are typically successful. If needed, our program is well-experienced in the quick and efficient surgical treatment of carpal tunnel disease. This 20-minute outpatient procedure is highly successful at providing effective relief.

The Glioma Center combines tremendous experience in clinical care with the latest in research discoveries to provide the most advanced care for gliomas. Our first step in treatment for these tumors is surgery, performed by our highly specialized neurosurgeons. As gliomas are often located deep within the brain, complete surgical removal is not always possible, so our team typically follows up with a combination of other treatments including chemotherapy and radiation to complete the tumor treatment. Consideration of alternating electrical fields and clinical trials including immune modulation are also discussed with each patient.

The Brown University SRS Division at Rhode Island Hospital offers two types of SRS: Gamma Knife and CyberKnife. SRS is a non-invasive form of therapy that allows for the precision of surgery without a knife. SRS delivers precise and accurate radiation to brain lesions with a low risk of harming normal brain tissue. There is no need for an incision, eliminating the need for anesthesia, long hospital stays and long recoveries.
