Pediatric Care
Heather Dentino, APN, WHNP-BC, is a dedicated and compassionate women’s health nurse practitioner at Couri Center for Gynecology in Peoria, IL. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Methodist College and gaining four years of valuable experience in postpartum and pediatrics at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital, Heather found her calling in outpatient women’s health and gynecology. In 2022, she received her Master of Science in Nursing and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of South Alabama. At Couri Center, Heather received expert gynecological training from Dana Humes-Goff, APN, and Dr. Cameron Mouro, as well as obstetrical training from Amy Phieffer, WHNP-BC. Previously serving as a lead nurse at Couri Center, Heather was heavily involved in patient care and outpatient surgical services. She worked closely with Dr. Couri, assisting her with in-office surgery and other complex gynecological procedures.

In 2010, she moved to Peoria, Illinois and completed her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Education and Leadership at A.T. Still University. She shifted her focus to Family Practice and Urgent Care, and she began her clinical teaching role with Advanced Practice Providers and Medical Students. Her love of teaching and learning has been one of her lifelong passions, and she serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois Medical School, and Midwestern University, Physician Assistant Program in Chicago. Since joining the Couri Center in May 2019, she is part of the Couri Bone Health program.

After PA school, Renee worked at an underserved community health center in Arizona, where she provided preventative and acute care for women and children. Cameron M. Mouro, M.D., FACOG, is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians with over 13 years of experience providing the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecologic care. He completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree and a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Mouro is honored to be the IHA Patient Experience Award recipient for 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

After residency, Dr. Mouro remained on faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he developed expertise in robotic and laparoscopic surgical treatments for various gynecologic conditions, including uterine fibroids and endometriosis.

Deborah Collins, M.S., PA-C, received her Physician Assistant training at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1997. She completed her Women’s Health and Internal Medicine training at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration, UCLA in 1999. She subsequently worked in Community Health Clinics specializing in Family Planning, Obstetrics, and Family Medicine for nearly 15 years.

This past spring I decided to enroll in Dr. Couri’s TLC program. My life has truly changed for the better! As I entered my late 40’s and early 50’s I experienced weight gain (especially around my middle), fatigue, low energy, a lack of concentration, poor or little sleep, joint aches...I could go on. I had been taking a statin for 2 years and had recently started taking medication for hypertension. In general, I felt lousy and as a mom with two busy teenagers, and a full time job that requires travel I wondered how long I could go on in this condition. Something had to change, so in April I began my simple journey to wellness. Upon meeting with Dr. Couri for my first TLC visit to review my lab results I was surprised to learn I had Hypothyroidism, or Hashimoto’s Disease. My labs indicated my body was most likely reacting to some common foods in my diet – a type of autoimmune response.

EMSELLA is a chair that uses a high-intensity electromagnetic field to activate motor neurons in the pelvic floor. Similar to an MRI, the technology is known as High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Technology (HIFEM), and it causes deep pelvic floor muscles stimulation.

General Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery
To treat certain problems of the uterus, your doctor may suggest a procedure called a laparoscopic hysterectomy. Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery, is done by placing instruments through tiny incisions and visualizing the pelvic contents using a camera attached to a scope rather than utilizing a large abdominal incision. Because laparoscopic surgery is less invasive, there is significantly less post-operative pain and a more rapid recovery.
Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery offers greater surgical precision, increased range of motion, improved dexterity, enhanced visualization and improved access to the surgical area.
Hysterectomy
You will need to wait for 12 weeks prior to resuming intercourse. You may not place anything (i.e. tampons, douching, sexual intercourse) in the vagina during this time. If you had a supracervical hysterectomy, i.e. the cervix was not removed, you may have intercourse after your postoperative visit (generally 4-6 weeks after surgery).
Endometrial Ablation
It is common to have vaginal bleeding or spotting for one to two weeks after your surgery. If you had an endometrial ablation, you may notice a moderate to heavy vaginal discharge for 4- 6 weeks.
Laparoscopy
Gynecological related surgeries include: abdominal hysterectomy, vaginal hysterectomy and pelvic prolapse, endometrial ablation, hysteroscopy, advanced laparoscopy surgery, laparoscopy hysterectomy and sterilization.
Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Mickey Karram, Director of Fellowship Program on Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH, and Dr. Eric Sokol, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University Medical Center has completed a multisite study.
