Overall

I am rating this post office with 1star because the website will not allow me to accept 0 stars. I received a package today that was damaged, open and empty. It was supposed to contain a mechanical part to repair a leaf blower but the package was damaged and torn open so the part was not there. I went to the Pelzer, SC post office to see what I needed to do to locate or get a replacement part. The man at the counter said he would notify another employee and see if they could trace/locate the part. He also said it appeared that the package was damaged by the machinery that is used to process packages through the postal service. Later in the day I was contacted by Julie, the other employee. Julie suggested I contact my credit card company or the retailer to see what they could do. I told her I thought the damage was the responsibility of the post office and she said it arrived from the Greenville post office damaged, opened, and empty. So I asked why an empty envelope was loaded in my carrier's vehicle for delivery and Julie responded, "that's all I could do, did you want me to throw the envelope away". I guess what I would expect would be for the post office to make an attempt to do the responsible thing and locate the part. I understand the value of purchasing insurance and generally do for more costly items but insurance should not be an excuse for the poor performance, lack of accountability, and irresponsible behavior of the United States Postal Service employees.
