Sinusitis
A 2004 International Headache Society (IHS) classification included “headache attributed to rhinosinusitis.” This referred to headaches that were: 1) frontal headaches accompanied by pain in one or more regions of the face, ears, or teeth, 2) clinical, nasal endoscopic, x-ray finding or laboratory evidence consistent with a sinus infection, 3) simultaneous onset of the headache and infection, and 4) resolution of the headache within seven days after remission or successful treatment of the sinus infection. The IHS still does not recognize chronic sinusitis as a cause for headache unless there is a relapse into an acute stage. The explanation as to how other conditions such as allergic rhinitis, deviation of the nasal septum, hypertrophy of nasal turbinates, atrophy of sinus membranes and mucosal contact can cause headaches has not been well explained.

Including a secure, proctored examination to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and experience to the provision of patient care in allergy and immunology. An allergist-immunologist is a physician specially trained to manage and treat asthma and the other allergic diseases. Becoming an allergist-immunologist requires completion of at least nine years of training. After completing medical school and graduating with a medical degree, a physician will then undergo three years of training in internal medicine (to become an internist) or pediatrics (to become a pediatrician). Once physicians have finished training in one of these specialties, they must pass the exam of either the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) or the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Internists or pediatricians who wish to focus on the sub-specialty of allergy-immunology then complete at least an additional two years of study, called a fellowship, in an allergy-immunology training program. Allergist-immunologists who are listed as ABAI-certified have successfully passed the certifying examination of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI), following their fellowship.
Primary Care
It is advised to see a board certified allergy specialist when your allergy related symptoms and/or asthma are not getting better and could eventually interfere with your quality of life. At Allergy and Asthma Care we would do specific tests to determine the triggers for your symptoms. We often work closely with your primary care physician to improve the quality of your care. Ear Infections
We live in a sea of germs, and everyone gets an infection at least once in a while. However, some people get recurring infections that need to be treated with antibiotics most of the time. For instance, Lindsay, age two, has had eight ear infections each year of her life. Mike, 32, needs antibiotics six to eight times every year to treat sinusitis and bronchitis. Both Lindsay and Mike have a problem with too many infections. Other patients may have infections that last longer and are more severe than the infections that most people get. For instance, Arielle developed a diarrhea that lasted several weeks when she was four months old, followed by an infection in her mouth that spread to a large area over her buttocks. Andrea developed her fist skin infection at 22 years of age. Her persistent infections were caused by a type of bacteria that rarely if ever causes infections in healthy people. There is probably an explanation for each of these histories. An allergist/immunologist who is treating patients with infection problems will be trying to understand the number, type and reasons for those infections. Uncovering these answers will help in establishing a prevention strategy and early treatment of an immune abnormality if that is needed.

Quality of life assessment of patients with allergic rhinitis includes headache as a common problem which adversely impacts the lives of sufferers. Patients often refer to facial pain or pressure as “sinus headaches.” Experts in allergy, otolaryngology, and neurology feel that real sinus headaches occur infrequently. How can we explain the obvious discrepancy between the common observation and the precise diagnosis?

Upon arrival to Allergy and Asthma Care, our receptionist will ask for your driver’s license, insurance identification card, and appropriate referrals. Frostbite
► Put a cold, moist cloth or bag of ice wrapped in a towel on the bitten area 3 to 4 times a day for 15 to 20 minutes. Never put ice directly on your skin. This could cause frostbite.
Eczema
A food allergy is a reaction by the body's immune system to something you ate or drank. Food allergies are more common in young children and in people who have other allergies, such as hay fever and eczema (dry skin rash). Food allergies must be taken seriously. Very tiny amounts of a food can cause a reaction if you are allergic to it, and a severe reaction can be sudden and life threatening.
Fungus
A number of things can cause swelling and sinusitis. Most often it's allergens (things that cause allergies, like animals, dust mites, pollen and mold) and viruses, such as viruses that cause the common cold. Whether the cause is allergies or a virus, the sinus linings can swell. When swelling causes the sinus passageway to swell shut, bacteria, viruses, and even fungus can be trapped in the sinuses and cause a sinus infection.
