Our dogs got skunked a couple of times, and we were also having racoon problems. We called Tim and he came right over and set up his traps. He caught 2 skunks and 2 racoons. He is very prompt and professional. His prices are very reasonable too. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or use him again if needed.

Overall

He came. He saw. He eliminated my pest problem. No muss, no fuss service and very reasonable. He came and in two days dispatched the entire possum family that got under my deck and did the needed repairs to keep others out. He is now getting the skunk my neighbors have. He is outstanding in every way and I highly recommend him. feel free to call. i live in naperville and am in phone book.

Ants
Bees
Eceives numerous calls regarding large numbers of honey bees hanging from trees, homes and even cars. These large "balls" of honey bees are referred to as a "swarm" and consist of a queen bee surrounded by numerous worker bees. The queen was produced in a hive that has outgrown it's living space. The new queen leaves the hive in search of a new suitable place to establish a new hive. While searching for a new residence, the swarm will stop on trees, bushes, cars etc. to rest and search for a suitable place to establish the new hive. Often the swarm will be present for a day or two and once a suitable location is found will move on.
Wasps
Paper wasp species often create pancake shaped nests and often build them at the peak of a roof, under the soffit and in small cavities on and around the residence. Their nests can also be found under decks, deck rails and inside outdoor patio furniture. Although not very aggressive, if one were to come very close to the nest and the wasps detect movement, they will defend their nest and sting.

Hornets
Bald-face hornets occasionally build their nests on homes and buildings. This species nests are most commonly observed hanging in a tree or in bushes. The nest is attached to branches in the tree and resembles a large football with an entrance hole located at the bottom. This species, although not a true hornet, but rather a specialized species of yellowjacket, defends the nest aggressively and will chase perceived threats great distances. Century hornets can often be observed near the entrance to the nest and are the first line of defense. These hornets are the first to attack any threat and great caution is to be used when working with this species. The nest, like all yellowjackets, will die off in the winter but not before producing queen hornets to begin new hornet nests the following year.

Moths

Bats
Most Illinois bats are members of the evening bat family and bats are unique because they are the only true flying mammals.
Moles
Moles breed in late winter and early spring and the gestation period is unknown. Biologists believe it is between four to six weeks resulting in litter sizes between two and five young.
Raccoons
Illinois raccoons, especially in the Chicagoland area, are the number one nuisance wildlife species providing for the most service calls to Prairie State Wildlife.
Snakes
Prairie State Wildlife occasionally receives service calls for reptiles. Prairie State Wildlife assists residents and landowners in Oswego, Naperville, Joliet, Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Lemont, Downers Grove, Yorkville and Sandwich Illinois and surrounding areas. Although northern Illinois has a fair number of reptiles and amphibians most are harmless and cause residents little concern. Most calls recieved are for any number of species of snake (native and non-native). Most calls involve ribbon, garter and fox snakes. All are harmless. The only venomous snake in our service area is the eastern massasauga rattlesnake (pygmy rattlesnake) and is heavily associated with wetlands and swamps. They are very rare in the Cook, DuPage, and Will county areas due to habitat destruction and loss.

Opossums
Prairie State Wildlife receives numerous calls regarding opossums each year. The opossum or the animal better known as the Virginia opossum is found throughout the mid western and eastern United States. The opossum is found throughout Illinois.
Muskrats
Each year Prairie State Wildlife receives numerous calls regarding muskrat control on both residential and public wetlands. Burrowing is the biggest concern with this species. If populations are left unchecked banks surrounding ponds and lakes can be so seriously eroded that major repair work is required. In addition to the extensive burrowing, muskrat feeding activities are responsible for extensive damage to ornamental plantings. Prairie State Wildlife removes hundreds of muskrats from our customer’s ponds and wetlands each year. Often we are contracted to remove problem animals and then provide prophylactic monitoring to insure muskrat populations stay within acceptable limits.
Coyotes
Coyote calls received by our office have steadily increased over the years. Coyotes are very adaptable animals and often live in close quarters with humans. Because they are so adaptable, they have expanded their range from the Great Plains of North America, to the Arctic and south to Central America. Coyotes are found throughout Illinois.
Badgers
Coyotes breed between January and March and the female comes into "heat" only once a year. Gestation usually lasts 63 days and litters are born in April and May. The average litter size is 6 pups, the young are born blind and helpless and are usually weaned at 5-7 weeks. At nine months they have reached adult size. Both male and female coyotes help feed the young. Coyote dens are often constructed by enlarging other animal burrows (badgers and woodchucks).

Most calls for service begin in early spring and last throughout summer as the nesting and egg laying season begins. Customers discover sparrows nesting in cavities throughout the exterior of the home. Sparrows will nest in gutters, hanging light fixtures and holes made by woodpeckers in cedar siding. Starlings prefer to nest in cavities and are most often found nesting in oven and bathroom vents leading to the exterior of a residence.

Prairie State Wildlife receives calls each year from customers suffering from annoying situations from numerous bird species. Most calls for service involve various species of sparrows, starlings and pigeons.

Customer complaints regarding pigeons often involve their roosting activities and the release of their droppings in undesirable areas.

Rodents
Woodchucks, also referred to as ground hogs are common throughout Illinois. They are large bodied rodents related to squirrels that can weigh as much as 10 pounds. Fur color can vary but most specimens appear grey, brown or yellowish. The legs are short and stout and the feet have large curved claws used for digging. Woodchucks have stout heads and the teeth are similar to other rodents, as they are often chisel like and yellow in color. The tail is dark brown, well furred and short. Our office receives many inquiries about beavers and often times the animal customers are wondering about turns out to be a woodchuck. Beavers have a large flat hairless tail, while a woodchuck has a short furred tail. The tail will help to identify what species you are observing.
Mice
Squirrels
Prairie State Wildlife receives numerous calls each year from the Aurora, Naperville, Oswego, Joliet, Yorkville, Downers Grove, Bolingbrook and Woodridge Illinois area residents. Fox and gray squirrels are among the most commonly observed squirrels in northern Illinois. The fox squirrel is the larger of the two species and the coat color, although variable is generally red. The eastern gray squirrel is smaller of the two species and is most commonly gray in color. Rarely a third squirrel, the northern flying squirrel is observed. All three species can come in conflict with humans. The majority of our Aurora, Naperville and Joliet Illinois area service calls regarding damage and nuisance issues involves the fox or gray squirrel.
Voles
Ecologically, voles are intimately related to grasses and grassland habitat. Voles are semifossorial (underground living) and create numerous underground burrows connected to numerous surface runways. The burrows provide protection from the elements, nursing areas and areas to rest free from predators. The surface runways are well-kept, worn to the bare soil and often feces can be observed in the runways. Voles use these runways to access food, most frequently grasses and forbes. In late fall they store numerous varieties of seeds and tubers. Burrows are often built near or under rock, and homeowners often find their front stoop or cement patio has been adopted by a family of voles.
Chipmunks
The eastern chipmunk provides for the bulk or our service calls regarding small mammal control. Eastern chipmunks are found throughout Illinois and are very common throughout our service area.
