He has shown this through his role as Commissioner for the California State Office of Economic Opportunity, the San Francisco Asian Art Museum, and Economic Development Commission for the City of Oakland. For Jong's philanthropic efforts to the Oakland community, Former Mayor Jerry Brown proclaimed March 5, 2004 as Dr. Jong Lee Day.
