Landscaping
Blake earned a BA from UNH and an MLA from City College in Landscape Architecture. Blake joined the MKM team after having had 15 years of experience with landscape construction in urban and suburban settings. He has a strong feeling for materials and hands-on knowledge of detailing, sub-surface conditions, and proper installation methods. Blake is passionate about his design work, able to think big-picture as well as fine scale in his approach to sites. He has managed the installation of green roof systems in NYC, at the Visionaire condominium in Battery Park City, at One Lincoln Plaza, at Clermont Greene in Brooklyn, NY at PS 6 in New York, NY and many other sites. He has a clear sense of how projects word from design to CA, and also is fluent in cost estimating.
Fencing
Strengthening the Security of the United Nations involved a thorough assessment of perimeter and internal access conditions, with redesign of perimeter fencing and plantings and redesign of vehicular and pedestrian security infrastructure.
Driveways
MKM has been asked to transform a 36 acre property in eastern Connecticut. The client has requested that their house, built 15 years ago, be more integrated into the landscape and that overall site should be more accessible. MKM divided the property into zones based on their ecological and physical characteristics, and proposed a phased approach to the overall site, always with a goal to visually integrate the architecture of the house with the land, to enhance opportunities for focused and expansive views, and to provide usability and access to portions of the property that were not being used. Some of the amendments are: terrace redesign, driveway re-alignment, meadow management, wetland plantings, grading to promote drainage, design of an entrance gate, planting an orchard, design and building of a tree house.
Snow Removal
The Bilkent Ezurum school, in east central Turkey, was developed as a magnet school for the region’s brightest students and prepares them for entrance into the world’s top universities. Recognizing MKM’s experience and skill, school directors and FXFowle Architects reached out to MKM to incorporate sweeping changes to the landscape design and infrastructure. Plans include both lower and upper school play areas, an orchard, greenhouse, and farming areas, an equestrian facility, athletic facilities and fields, and basic infrastructure such as parking and snow removal areas.
Retaining Walls
As a Capital Projects consultant for the City of New York, Mark K. Morrison Landscape Architecture PC prepared construction documents for the reconstruction of the promenade along Riverside Drive between West 79th and West 87th Streets. This project restored the historic hex block and cobblestone paving, reconstructed the stone retaining wall, and installed new benches, trash receptacles and lights, reflective of the site furnishings in adjacent Riverside Park. Large existing trees were protected by increasing the size of the tree pits and leveling the surrounding paving.
Walkways
MKM designed numerous country estates in the New York metro area that allow the homeowner to experience the full beauty of their native landscape. Projects include installing fencing, driveways, pools, walkways, tree transplanting, garden beds, and perennial gardens.
