A Stitch Above Seamstress

I brought a wedding dress and bridesmaid dress to Alyssa on very short notice and was thrilled she was able to make the alterations in time for the wedding - which was a week away. Unfortunately, that is the only positive thing I can say. We were charged outrageous prices (as some online research of alterations costs revealed). In fact, the alteration cost for each dress was more than the dress itself cost. Not knowing anything about alterations we went with Alyssa's suggestions - and my, she certainly seemed to know what she was talking about! In hindsight, she made many more alterations than were necessary (I simply needed the side-seams taken in, but she readjusted the entire bodice - causing some damage in the process). The bride wanted a minor alteration to the bodice of her dress but Alyssa's alterations were so severe - including cutting the ribbing that gave the bodice it's support - that the dress kept threatening to roll down and expose the brides breasts throughout the entire day! The poor thing spent her entire wedding day pulling her dress up! Alyssa also talked the bride into a french bustle, which admittedly, was beautiful, but the ties kept breaking throughout the day and the train kept falling down. I'd like to make it clear that there was time for a second fitting before the wedding, and additional touch-up alterations, so it's not as if there were alterations Alyssa did not have time to make or adjust. Also, prior to posting this review I sent Alyssa a letter and photos of the dresses showing the items that we were unhappy with. I asked for a partial refund to make up for the frustration we experienced as a result of the poor alterations, and she never even responded to my letter - not even to defend herself or apologize, much less issue a refund. Had I heard from Alyssa, I would not have posted this comment. But, since she was not willing to make this situation right, I feel as if I should share my experience with others so that they can hopefully avoid a similar problem.

I have no reservations leaving pieces with Alyssa to tailor for me. She does exceptional work, has a quick turnaround time, and her prices are great! Highly recommend!

I highly recommend this seamstress. She is the only one now that tailors my suits. Very good work at a very good price
