Women under age 30 are the best candidates for egg freezing. Additionally, the success rates decline with age. The process starts with screening for infectious diseases and ovarian reserve tests. We then do ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs for retrieval. When a woman is ready to begin her family, we thaw her eggs and fertilize them in the lab. Dr. Hudson then transfers one embryo to the uterus.

Female Infertility
A female factor is responsible for 40% of infertility cases, while a male factor is involved in another 40% of cases. As for the remaining 20%, these cases involve some combination of male and female infertility. For each patient, treatment will depend on the causes of infertility.

Hypothyroidism
A diagnosis of exclusion means that other conditions such as hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone), hyperprolactinemia (too much prolactin hormone), and congenital adrenal hyperplasia (an inherited disease) must be ruled out by a few lab tests. As even normal-weight women with PCOS have an increased risk of glucose intolerance, diabetes, and high cholesterol, appropriate tests for these conditions will likely be performed.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Most of the time, our New Braunfels fertility surgeon can perform minimally invasive surgery. In this type of surgery, Dr. Hudson will either make a few tiny incisions or no incision at all, depending on the procedure. She will then insert a small camera or telescope to view the reproductive organs and diagnose the problem. After diagnosis, but during the same procedure, she will use delicate, surgical instruments to perform surgery to treat the issue.
