Overall
I wouldn't recommend this school

My son has been attending helena park for 3 years now and although they seem to be very concerned with the children's education , they tend to have too high of expectations. They recommended my son take summer school classes when he had A's & B's on his report card. I'm sorry but when I went to school that was considered passing with flying colors. After sending him anyways thinking they had his best interests in mind I figured out from talking to other parents that it's all about the money. They're more concerned with the money than your child's education. The teachers don't seem to like their jobs at all. I have seen so many mean teachers at this school. They always have frowns on their faces . If you work with children, that's not the way to be. If you can't act like you love your job then you shouldn't be working with children. I have seen teachers yelling at students which in my opinion is not acceptable. That is a parents job only. They're job is to teach. If the children are that out of hand then make a call to the parents so they can deal with them. Also my son was being allowed by the cafeteria to charge his meals when he had no money. I sent him with a lunch daily and he ate breakfast before he left the house so there was no reason for him to eat. His account ended up going into the negative over $10 because of them allowing him to charge his meals continuously. I finally figured out what was going on and told them to stop letting him do that. I purposely didn't keep money in his account due to him abusing his privileges. The teachers really complain about the smallest things. My son gets notes on his agenda often about very insignificant things. He's not a bad kid, just a busy kid. They can't expect kids that young to be able to sit in a desk for several hours a day and not get bored. They obviously have no understanding of children. I was looking so forward to my son attending helena since this is the same school his father attended but they have totally ruined that . If it wasn't for him having friends there I would have moved him to another school. Theres been many times where he's come home with absolutely filthy clothes to the point they're stained beyond fixing and ripped clothes that were brand new that supposedly happened on the playground. I don't understand why the teachers are allowing them to get that crazy on the playground to rip their clothes and be covered in mud. My son has complained of bullying. This should not be happening. Where are the teachers? He's also said he's had teachers be degrading to him like telling him they were going to hold his hand like a baby. That's nothing a teacher should tell a child. It's different when a parent does it. He's told me that a teacher has got in his face and angrily talked to him and picked his arm up off the table to make him look at her because he had his head down. They shouldn't touch the children. Period. These teachers need to find other jobs if they can't understand children and what it takes to work with them. It's more than just having a degree.
