DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! W...

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! We started having problems with our furnace in December 2011. Luckily, or unluckily as it turned out, we had recently purchased our home so the furnace and other major appliances were partially covered by a home warranty (American Home Shield) that the seller had purchased for us. We contacted AHS and they assigned Modern Air to our ticket and told us that we should be receiving a call from them within the hour. When 3 hours went by I called Modern Air directly and they scheduled an appointment for someone to come out in the next 2 days (keep in mind this is the middle of winter and our furnace isn't working). The guy comes out and determines that a part on the furnace is broken and needs to be special ordered if they don't have one at their store. He tells me he'll call me later that day and let me know if they have it in. He never calls and by now it's Friday afternoon and about to be the weekend. I call and leave messages over the weekend and call back on Monday which is the New Year's Holiday. They answer and are very rude and tell us they will let us know when the part gets in. Friday of the next week the part is finally in and someone else comes out to install it all the while blaming the warranty company for why it is taking so long to get the part they needed. He installs the part after being there for several hours and it's working. By Sunday the furnace is not working. I leave an irate message. We call again Monday and they tell us that we need a new furnace. Thankfully we found someone at the Warranty company to EXPRESS order the furnace and help us every step of the way. Including to help compensate us for space heaters we had to purchase to keep from freezing to death. Modern Air Comes out 2 weeks later, now the end of January, to install our furnace. It took them 8 hours, they dinged the crap out of our walls, door and attic entry getting it in and said it was the easiest installation they had ever done. It was raining that day and luckily my husband had thought to put down flattened cardboard boxes on the carpet leading to the attic entry. They said 'that's a good idea, we wouldn't have thought to do that'. We were going to get the bill for $550 which included a $150 permit fee (as we found out later was never filed with the city). We took pictures of all the dings to our walls and damage they did getting it in and our warranty company agreed to pay $200 of the $550 for the damages. Fast forward to last weekend, we have new carpet in paint as we just purchased the house in November so I thought the smell we were smelling on one side of the house was that, but kind of suspected that it might be natural gas. When we return home from a weekend away the smell is obviously natural gas. We call the gas company immediately and the guy comes out and tells us that the furnace was improperly installed because the flex pipe that is connecting the furnace to the steel gas piping in our attic was not tightened and had been leaking since it was installed. He said it was as if we had had a burner on simmer in our attic since January. AWESOME!!! The real kicker was that we paid a permit fee which is supposed to be submitted to the county by the contractor, Modern Air, so that an inspector from the city can sign off on the furnace. THIS IS THE LAW. Come to find out when we call the county a permit was never submitted, yet they sure had no problem taking our $150 permit fee. ILLEGAL!!!!!! So if you ever think about using this company consider yourself warned! They are frauds and they are responsible for a gas leak in our house that could have had some deadly results!!
