He is currently under Suspension for the horrendous job he did on my Mother's addition!!!!!! He used shoddy materials, fleeced my mother for $68K without completing job, installed insulation incorrectly, didn't nail windows in!!!! He did a horrendous job, stay away!!!!!!!!! He is not a contractor he is a con man!!

In my experience, and although the work done was passable after several return visits, the ethics of this company's billing practices borders on criminal. At this time the corporate status is defunct and the license is under suspension, although I believe that David B. Toneman Construction is still entering into contracts anyway. That speaks volumes for itself. The company did not do the work it was contracted to do. Shortcuts were taken to benefit the contractor while the quoted price did not change. I was charged for work that was not done, told out-and-out falsehoods, and severely overcharged (charged almost $300 for a $6 rubber weatherstrip for the patio doors from the manufacturer via Home Depot). The contract was violated without any consideration for the home owner. This company gives a reasonable quote, but adds "extras" which amounted to half again what the contracted price was to be. I was charged almost $1,000 for labor I was told to my face was included in the contracted quote. Their catch-all phrase is: "There must have been a misunderstanding", but the billing never changed to reflect that "misunderstanding". Unauthorized charges were billed after the fact and were expected to be paid. I was also expected to pay for mistakes made by their workers (especially the painters). This company won't even return our house key. David Toneman Construction rides a long established reputation, which they may have desreved in the past, but certainly not recently by my appraisal. We are filing complaints with every consumer agency and chambers of commerce for the area of coverage. Small claims court is looming since the arrogance of David Toneman himself will not permit him to accept any of the numerous opportunities to discuss the contractual complaints we have. He claims it is too late to discuss the issues, or avoids them completely. I cannot urge other consumers striongly enough to be on their utmost guard if they choose to deal with David Toneman Construction. Beware, and be extremely critical about the wording of the contract and the promises made by David Toneman himself.
