Shane is a great teacher who understands that the lesson is about you. I came Green Hills Guitar studio after trying to learn guitar off of youtube. The youtube teachers are good teachers, but they don't compare to one-on-on lessons. Over the past 18 months (I take online lessons), Shane has drastically improved my both my right hand and my left hand technique. He introduced me to my favorite guitar player, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Under Shane's guidance I can now play SRV's Lenny and Little Wing. More recently he's begun to teach me how to play to by ear. Prior to taking lessons, I thought that I it would be impossible for me to play by ear. Shane is a teacher who can teach the impossible. If you aren't sure about taking lesson guitars, then try one lesson. I promise you won't regret it.

I am an amateur songwriter and wanted someone to give me input on some of my songs while I was visiting Nashville. Shane and I had a very constructive and fun session going over my songs. He brings great knowledge, energy and enthusiasm to the process.

I’ve been going to Green Hills Guitar Studio for about a year now. My knowledge of music theory, music business, songwriting, and guitar playing have increased dramatically. I started with bits and pieces of songs without much structure. Shane has showed me how to build and structure a song from start to finish. I've been taking lessons from Green Hills Guitar Study since for about 9-months and couldn't be happier. My initial call with Shane started with a conversation about my interest in learning. Shane used this information to pair me with Sam who is really quite phenomenal as an instructor. My guitar playing has definitely improved and I've been really impressed by Sam's ability to assess my progress and make 'course correction' suggestions as I hit roadblocks. More important, Sam has taught me to think about music --- moving beyond learning guitar tabs and individual songs/riffs to learning musical notation and theory. Sam is a great instructor and extremely talented as a musician. I'd recommend Green Hills Guitar Studio to anyone looking to take their guitar playing to the next level.

I started playing classical guitar almost two years ago. I came to GHGS six months ago when my former instructor stopped teaching and I started taking lessons from Sam. Not only is Sam helping me further develop my classical skills (not bad for a guy who has a jazz background) but he is also helping me to explore a contemporary sound as well on my new acoustic guitar. I highly recommend Sam for a beginner or expert player. He is very knowledgeable of the guitar and he is very professional.

I have been taking online lessons with Shane for 5 months now. I am amazed how far I have progressed. We are using FaceTime to do the lessons and due to my very busy schedule it has been very convenient. I am currently taking 1 hr lessons. His method of teaching gets you playing full songs very quickly and I finally have a better understanding of music theory and how to apply it to song writing and song construction. Because of Shane I have been able to release 5 songs so far on iTunes and hope to have an album out in 4 more months.

If you have any reservations about taking online lessons from Shane -don't -- it was worth every penny.

Having spent years hacking scales only to learn segmented skills, I knew progress required a change of approach.I found the studio online and met Shane for a Free 30 minute lesson. His openness and compassion for pursuing my personal artistry drew me in and I instantly became a student.



Since I met with Shane I have written my first four full songs, refined my rhythm playing and demystified lead guitar. I have explored the music that beats within me and have learned how to be an artist.

Sam is a great guitar instructor! Very knowledge, can play any style, and personalizes lessons to each student. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for lessons from an expert!

Shane is teaching my 4-year-old son how to play guitar. He really gets through to him, by being so nice, so patient (very important when you're 4-years-old) and so encouraging. We're still learning the basics, but the way Shane presents the material makes it very easy to learn. It's laid back, but we're learning! As for the location, parking has been an issue for us on occasion, so give yourself a few extra minutes beforehand to find a spot. Overall, very pleased. I found him via Google and signed up on a whim, but as far as I'm concerned, he's Nashville's best guitar teacher for kids.

You will not find a better guitar instructor than Shane. He will help you learn any style of playing at whatever level or pace you need. His talent and teaching ability stand out in a city full of talented musicians. Lessons are a pleasure and the instruction is excellent.

Wow, how could I possibly recommend Shane more highly?! Besides being a phenomenal guitarist, he's also an amazing songwriting instructor. I moved here with the dream of making music that hit charts and what I've learned with Shane is a true respect for the craft as well as a desire to write music that means something and comes from my soul. I was just nominated for New Songwriter of the Year with the Tennessee Songwriters Association International; that, paired with my music already making the radio in a mid-market, has been such a blessing. I'm a singer/songwriter and a freshman Songwriting major at Belmont University. I looked into taking guitar lessons after realizing that I didn't know enough theory or enough guitar to keep up with others I wrote with. In just the few short months of lessons, Shane has gone above and beyond to help "fill in the gaps" of my guitar/ theory knowledge. He's excellent guitarist and teacher, and has helped to not only improve my playing, but also my songwriting and my confidence in music theory. Highly recommended!

I have been playing guitar now for around 5 years. Being self taught, I felt I had plateaued out and wasn't learning anymore. I started lessons with Shane at green hills guitar studio and all that changed. He has opened my eyes to a whole new side of music that I never understood before. Shane has been teaching my elementary age girls for a year. They have made incredible advances in reading and playing music. His method is relaxed but systematic and organized. They are excited to go to lessons and excited to practice, and they are playing all music genres relevant to the lesson that is taught. What keeps them really hooked is that he peppers music into the lessons that they choose, and it really rounds out the experience. He is patient and can really draw out the student. The lessons are not cookie cutter, but very tailored to the needs and skills of the student. I can't say enough good things about Green Hills Guitar Studio.

Not only is Shane a great guitarist, he's also a great teacher and person as well! My guitar playing and skill has improved far faster and better than I could imagine and I'm really enjoying myself. Shane really teaches the instrument and not just how to play songs. Overall, I'm really pleased with how consistently my abilities are improving.
