Teeth Cleaning

If we notice signs of trouble, we may suggest periodontal therapy. The goal of periodontal therapy is to restore diseased tissues to a healthy state. Gum disease can spread from the gums to the bone that supports the teeth and can even cause tooth loss in some cases.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
– Dental sealants – Dental sealants are resin coatings that seal the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These grooves, known as “pits and fissures,” are naturally perfect environments for trapping decay-causing bacteria. By placing a sealant, it will make bacteria less likely to be trapped in the chewing surfaces. Sealants are easy to apply and will provide years of protection.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Fillings are dental restorations that are fabricated chair-side by your dentist using a resin composite material. Fillings are a great solution for fixing small cracks or cavities in a tooth; however, when fillings are large, they become prone to breaking or failing. Onlays are typically recommended when the decay or fracture in a tooth has become too extensive to restore with a filling. Onlays are proven to be stronger than a filling yet more conservative than a crown.

This patient was looking to refresh her smile in a functional and natural way. With the help of 8 porcelain veneers, we were able to improve the shape and shade of her teeth. The result is stunning! Crowns
Let’s review what you can expect after having a temporary crown placed at Markiewicz Dental of Mundelein. Usually it takes more than one appointment to complete a crown or bridge. While the permanent restoration is being made, you will have a temporary restoration to protect your teeth.
Bridges
With some missing teeth and old failing restorations, this patient was looking for a fixed solution to her issues. Dr. David Markiewicz worked with our talented lab ceramist to fabricate a long-spanning porcelain bridge to match her other teeth. This collaboration lead to an amazing final results! This smile transformation was completed in just two visits leaving the patient, ceramist, and dentist happy!
Dental Bonding
Sometimes the smallest and most conservative dentistry is the best. This patient chipped his front tooth and wanted it fixed. Using composite bonding, Dr. David was able to fix this chip in just under 15 minutes! For smaller chips or breaks, composite bonding is a conservative way to restore front teeth. When given the mirror after the chip was fixed, this patient responded, “Wow! That’s like magic, I can’t tell anything ever happened!”
Restorative Dentistry
Drs. Anthony and David Markiewicz are high skilled in restorative dentistry including fabricating both upper and lower dentures. Full dentures are a good and economical solution for patients who do not have any remaining teeth in an arch. Although dentures can take time to get used to, today’s dentures are more natural and comfortable than ever. Our dentists at Markiewicz Dental use only the highest quality laboratories when fabricating full dentures. We also use advanced digital technologies to aid in denture tooth shade and shape selection. You can see some of our own denture transformations below.

Root Canal Treatment
Constant, severe pain and pressure, swelling of the gums, and sensitivity to touch indicate an infection in the tooth, possibly accompanied by an abscess (inflamed, pus-filled sac) in the surrounding gum and bone tissue. In this case, it’s important to see a dentist or endodontist right away — not only to relieve the pain, but also to save the tooth while it’s still possible. Treatment may include a root canal to remove diseased or dying pulp tissue, and/or periodontal procedures to drain the abscess and stop the infection.

Deep Cleaning
Scaling and Root Planing – These are deep-cleaning techniques that are used to control gum disease. Using hand scalers and ultrasonic instruments, we can remove plaque and calculus that accumulate beneath the gum tissue.

Dentures
In the past, the only option for patients receiving partial dentures included a metal framework. Although these metal partials have worked well, patients often report they are heavy, bulky, and can have a metallic taste associated with them. At Markiewicz Dental, we work with a local high quality lab to fabricate metal-free partials for our patients. Instead of using metal as the framework for a partial, we use Zirlux Acetal, a millable thermoplastic material that is strong, flexible, and more comfortable. Although we still do make metal partials, most patient’s prefer these new metal-free partial dentures.

Oral Surgery

Jaw Surgery
Corrective Jaw Surgery – It is possible for issues in jaw development to cause further problems with a person’s bite or overall oral health. This surgical procedure corrects both jaw function and appearance, for a more comfortable and natural bite.
Gum Surgery
We have a number of effective treatments for periodontal disease, including nonsurgical procedures such as root cleaning and the local application of antimicrobials. For more serious conditions, conventional or laser gum surgery is an option. Finally, to keep your gums healthy between office visits, we can help you develop an effective oral hygiene routine you can practice at home.
Tooth Extractions
Tooth Extractions – having a tooth removed requires minor oral surgery, no matter the reason. Common reasons for tooth extractions are the removal of wisdom teeth, removing a diseased or decayed tooth, and removing teeth to correct overcrowding.
Bone Grafting
Many times bone grafting is done at the time of extraction. The source of bone graft material is of bovine (cow) origin and should not be used in individuals with cow/dairy sensitivities. We will place a covering over the bone graft using either a non-resorbable Teflon wafer, commonly known as a Teflon barrier, which is man-made. The wafer will be removed in four weeks. The other option is a medical grade resorbable wafer, typically known as a collagen membrane or barrier, which is made from the Achilles tendon of a cow. The barrier keeps the bone graft material in place.

Orthodontics
Quality dental treatment is a team effort. While we do not provide traditional orthodontics at Markiewicz Dental, we do collaborate with a select group of excellent orthodontists. We participate in the treatment planning process and provide the extremely important ongoing dental hygiene care.
