Overall

Do NOT and I repeat, do NOT go to Waves for anything under any circumstances. My husband and I visited Isle of Palms for a week recently and since we hadn't had a chance to go on vacation for quite a while, our beach chairs, that we had so faithfully chauffeured to and from beach to beach every year, had rusted in our garage and were unusable. We pitched them into the dumpster and decided that when we arrived at our destination, we would buy a set of new chairs to take on vacation every year. My husband and I Googled and drove to any and every store that we thought might have beach chairs (we had never been to Isle of Palms before and were used to Florida, where you can buy chairs anywhere, including drugstores) until we finially arrived at Target, which also did not have beach chairs, but an employee told us to try Waves. We immediately drove to Waves, where we wandered around until we spotted the chairs, grabbed a couple and proceeded to checkout, all the while being completely and utterly ignored by not one, but two cashiers on their cell phones. Not once were we greeted and other than the sound of the cashier planning her night out, our quick beach chair mission was silent. Neither my husband nor myself could believe what we had just experienced, but we were so happy to have found some chairs to lounge in on the beach that we didn't dwell on the fact that we had just experienced the worst customer service in either of our lives. When we finally made it to the beach, we had two issues: the first being that my husband's chair wouldn't open and the second being that I couldn't sit on mine without it collapsing on me. After some inspection, we realized that both chairs were likely returns from a previous purchase. My chair was rusted at the hinges and my husband's chair had holes in it, in addition to being a factory reject. We attempted to return the chairs only to discover that Waves is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (we purchased the chairs on Sunday evening and tried to use them on Monday afternoon), so we came back to our rental and decided to do our sitting on chairs at the pool. We proceeded to drive back to Waves on Thursday and this time, we were greeted with bad attitudes. We were informed that, regardless of the rust and holes on the chairs, they do not accept returns under any circumstances. We realized at that point that these people know exactly what sort of new and used junk they are selling to unsuspecting travelers and fully intend on letting people walk out with a hole in their pocket and things that will never serve them on their hard earned vacation. We were told to call Joanne, the supposed only person who can authorize anything beyond a regular sale, and have yet to receive a call back after numerous calls and voicemails left. Oddly enough, the "manager" at Waves, that denied us our return, insists that Joanne knows all about my husband and I needing to return faulty chairs and yet we still have not heard back from her. I will soon be contacting local rental companies and businesses to let them know of this situation so that they will not refer anyone to Waves again. Stay far, far away from this place!
