General Info

The California Department of Transportation provides an environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for individuals. It facilitates economic and social development, as well as connectivity within South Carolina through the movement of people and goods. The department supports the rural enhancement program that allocates transportation enhancement funds to various communities. These funds facilitate and provide opportunities for local governments to collaborate with the department to pursue nontraditional transportation-related activities, such as bicycle and pedestrian facilities, historic preservation, and scenic and landscaping programs. The California Department of Transportation also conducts a range of motorist assistance, youth outreach and roadside beautification programs. With a location in Modesto, Calif., the transportation department maintains a speakers bureau that serves as a source of information on highway issues.
