Do not, under any circumstances, undergo an MRI if you haven’t positively verified the pill camera exited your body. If the pill camera is still in your body, the MRI could cause serious damage to your intestinal tract.

Computed Tomography
Diagnosis of ulcerative colitis involves a combination method, including physical examination, blood and fecal tests, imaging tests, colonoscopy, and biopsy. Some of these tests are used to rule out other conditions. During a colonoscopy, a thin, flexible tube is used to examine the inside of the colon and rectum. This also allows the specialist to take a tissue sample for biopsy. Imaging tests such as CT scans, MRIs, and X-rays with contrast may also be used to detect inflammation and assess the extent of the disease. Your medical and family history, diet, and symptoms will be taken into consideration when making a diagnosis.

If you are experiencing discomfort or pain in your throat while swallowing, you may have an esophageal stricture. Widening the esophagus through stretching is typically done when the esophagus becomes narrowed or constricted and swallowing becomes difficult. This narrowing may occur due to conditions such as, scarring from acid reflux, cancer, radiation therapy, and achalasia, a condition where the lower esophageal sphincter fails to relax properly and continues to spasm.

Lesions
This endoscopic procedure should be used to evaluate your large intestine if you experience abdominal pain, bleeding, or a change in bowel habits. It may also be necessary if you’ve been diagnosed with anemia. Enabling a physician to view the interior of the colon, the exam can detect polyps that can be biopsied or removed, while bleeding lesions can be controlled as well.
