Dental Examination
You’ll be greeted by one of our friendly team members who will sit down and take time to introduce you to our practice and answer any questions you might have. You’ll also meet our favorite great big kid, Dr. George! He will become acquainted with your family and perform a complete dental exam on your child.
X-rays

Teeth Cleaning
Your first visit will conclude with a special photo of your child and Dr. George before making a stop at the Treasure Tower (where Dr. George is famous for handing out extra toys!). Finally, we will schedule your child’s first official dental cleaning.
Fluoride Treatment
Ordinarily, periodic recall appointments, which include an examination, preventive dental education, cleaning and fluoride treatments will be recommended twice a year and are usually scheduled every six months. The frequency of dental visits will partly depend on your child’s eating habits; how clean his or her teeth are kept; and if he/she has a history of dental decay.
Dental Sealants
A sealant is a protective coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces (grooves) of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where four out of five cavities in children are found. This sealant acts as a barrier to food, plaque and acid, thus protecting the decay-prone areas of the teeth.
Space Maintainers
A lower lingual arch is a space maintainer for the lower teeth. It maintains molar positioning and does not move them. It's by placing bands on the molars and connecting them to a wire that fits up against the inside of the lower teeth. It keeps the molars from migrating forward and prevents them from blocking off the space of teeth that develop later. This is used when baby teeth are lost early, or when lower teeth are slightly crowded in a growing child and you want to avoid removing any permanent teeth to correct the crowding.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth: If possible, find the tooth. Handle it by the crown, not by the root. You may rinse the tooth with water only. DO NOT clean with soap, scrub or handle the tooth unnecessarily. Inspect the tooth for fractures. If it is sound, try to reinsert it in the socket. Have the patient hold the tooth in place by biting on a gauze or clean cloth. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, transport the tooth in a cup containing the patient’s saliva or milk, NOT water. If the patient is old enough, the tooth may also be carried in the patient’s mouth (beside the cheek). The patient must see a dentist IMMEDIATELY! Time is a critical factor in saving the tooth.

Pulpotomy
Dental caries (cavities) and traumatic injury are the main reasons for a tooth to require pulp therapy. Pulp therapy is often referred to as a "nerve treatment", "children's root canal", "pulpectomy" or "pulpotomy". The two common forms of pulp therapy in children's teeth are the pulpotomy and pulpectomy.
Root Canal Treatment
A pulpectomy is required when the entire pulp is involved (into the root canal(s) of the tooth). During this treatment, the diseased pulp tissue is completely removed from both the crown and root. The canals are cleansed, disinfected and, in the case of primary teeth, filled with a resorbable material. Then, a final restoration is placed. A permanent tooth would be filled with a non-resorbing material.

Over the years, Dr. George has taken leadership roles in his field. He served as the Student Body President of his dental school and the President of the Indiana University graduate Student Organization. For several years, Dr. George was the Chairman of the Children’s Dental Health Fair in Indianapolis. Dr. George is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the Donald Johnson Public Health Award, Pierre Fauchard Academy Scholarship Award, Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry Award, Indiana Dental Association Special Honor Award, and the AAOMFS Dental Implant Award.

Jaw Surgery
Doing orthodontic treatments in two steps provides excellent results, often allowing the doctor to avoid removal of permanent teeth and jaw surgery.

Braces
Research has shown that serious orthodontic problems can be more easily corrected when the patient’s skeleton is still growing and flexible. We can prepare the mouth for the eventual eruption of the permanent teeth by correcting the skeletal problems at a younger age. If the permanent teeth have adequate space to erupt they will come in fairly straight. If the teeth erupt fairly straight, their tendency to get crooked again after the braces come off is diminished significantly. After the permanent teeth have erupted - usually from age 12-14 - complete braces are placed for final alignment and detailing of the bite. Thus, the final stage of treatment is quicker and easier on the patient. The last phase of treatment usually lasts from 12 - 18 months and is not started until all of the permanent teeth are erupted.
