Dental Examination
At Great Lakes Family Dental Group in Livonia, Michigan, our team is proud to offer oral cancer screenings during your routine dental examinations. You will be thoroughly checked for lumps, bumps and lesions that could indicate a problem.
Oral Cancer Screening
Dr. Heba Abuhussein was born in Los Angeles, California. She moved back to her native country Saudi Arabia when her father completed his PhD in education at the University of Southern California. She grew up in Saudi Arabia, where she completed her education and graduated the top of her class earning a DDS degree at King AbdulAziz University Dental School. She moved back to the United States in 2006 where she completed the Graduate Periodontal Program at the University of Michigan in 2009. She loves teaching and has taught at the University of Michiganâ€™s Dental School and King AbdulAziz University Dental School. She spends the rest of her professional career working in private practice. She has volunteered her services in treating migrant patients at University of Michigan Dental Migrant Program in Traverse City and has rendered free oral cancer screenings at local hospitals. Dr. Abuhussein is an active member and Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology. She feels extremely fortunate to be in such a wonderful profession that enables her to improve the quality of life of her patients.

Some of our patients refer to their oral hygiene visit as a â€œteeth-cleaningâ€ appointment, but itâ€™s actually much more than a simple cleaning. We use the time with you to check your teeth and gums for any signs of a problem, so weâ€™re able to take action during the early stages.
Fluoride Treatment
During these appointments, a dental hygienist will scale your teeth -- removing tartar build-up. They will also polish the surface of your teeth to remove minor stains, and may offer you a fluoride treatment.

Dr. Jason Sherbel grew up in West Bloomfield, Michigan and is happy to be back serving the area he was raised. He completed all 11 years of his formal education at the University of Michigan receiving Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biomolecular Sciences, Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS), and Master of Science (MS) in Orthodontics. Outside the clinic, he likes to stay active physically and mentally, whether itâ€™s exercising, traveling, or playing chess! He loves to spend time with friends and family and has a fascination with animals. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and looks forward to remaining active in other professional organizations. He is very excited to join the Great Lakes Family Dental Group team.
