Personalized representation, one-on-one attention, collaborative counsel—these are the pillars of our firm, The Law Offices of Van A. Schwab. From our location in Libertyville, Illinois, our attorney helps individuals and families navigate matters of divorce and estate planning. Let us lead you forward and help you build the future you deserve.
Our client, the ex-husband/father, was an engineer for a Fortune 500 corporation. The parties involved had two children. The older child graduated from a Chicago north suburban high school in June 2012. Child support was reduced to 20% of his net income. The ex-wife/mother petitioned for college education expense contribution. Each party was required to pay one-third of the out-of-pocket expense if the child maintained a C+ grade point average for his first year of college. Younger child was set to graduate high school when the older child was scheduled to graduate college. Ex-husband still had one year of maintenance left to be paid at that time. Each party paid their own fees.
Child Custody and Visitation
When parents are in a contested child custody dispute even after mediation has been completed, a mediator may send a case back to court. The court may appoint an attorney, guardian ad litem, or child representative to serve as a voice for the child. With over 40 years of experience in family law matters, attorney Van Schwab has the experience needed to be a dedicated advocate for children’s needs.

Spousal Support
Spousal support: Commonly called alimony, these payments are intended to help the lesser-earning spouse maintain a reasonable standard of living after the divorce. In most cases, the goal is to help the lesser-earning spouse become self-sufficient.
Child Abuse
If you pass away, your child’s other parent will obtain all allocation of parental responsibility, parenting time, and full parental rights (barring any factors such as incarceration or a history of child abuse). If you and the other parent both pass away around the same time, however, the Illinois courts will need guidance as to whom you would want to care for your child.
Qualifying for divorce used to involve providing the court with adequate grounds for dissolving the union. Divorce grounds formerly included bigamy, adultery, impotence, conviction of a felony, attempted murder, abandonment, extreme emotional or physical cruelty.

Wills
This form of trust is included in your last will and testament. Testamentary trusts are most commonly created when an inheritance of a large sum of money, young children, or relatives with disabilities are involved.
Trusts
A trust is an agreement in which two parties are involved: a trustee and a beneficiary. The trustee’s role is to hold and manage property for the beneficiary. As you’re creating your estate plan, you may set up a living trust, which is created while you’re still alive, or a testamentary trust, which is created under your will.
