Dr. Catherine Principeis a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in health psychology. She has extensive experience in providing comprehensive psychological care for patients ages 18 and older. Her expertise includes the treatment of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, complex medical conditions, trauma, and other chronic mental health conditions. Dr. Principe earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and her Doctor of Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. She sees patients at the Grasslands Campus. Describe your clinical specialties. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialty in health psychology. I provide comprehensive psychological care for patients ages 18 and older. What would you like people to know about you as a physician? I have a special interest in providing psychological care to adults living with chronic pain, illness, and physical disability. I have a background in health psychology as well as expertise in helping patients who are dealing with pain management, work-related injuries, acute injuries, oncology treatment, and the adjustment to complex medical issues. How does your work improve lives? Psychotherapy provides a safe environment to feel understood, to work through past hurts, and to learn strategies to achieve personal goals. What is your patient care philosophy? Living with chronic pain, depression, or anxiety can have unwanted effects on emotions and behavior. I offer treatment for these issues using a variety of therapies including the management of pain and anxiety/stress, as well as EMDR, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mind/body medicine. What do you enjoy most about working with patients? I enjoy collaborating with patients by utilizing a self-management approach to treatment so that they can live independent, empowered, and meaningful lives. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy gardening, volunteering in the community, and spending time with friends and family.
