I worked as a nurse for 25 years and have worked as a psychologist since 2006. In the 1980s, I worked at a suicide prevention facility in Miami, both as a counselor and a staff trainer. I have also worked in a private practice setting and have been involved in treatments using biofeedback. I have also worked with children and adolescents in a residential setting. What is your patient care philosophy? I use evidence-based treatments in conjunction with empathy, support, and encouragement to help people become the best version of themselves successfully, and to help them discover the answers they already have inside them. What would you like people to know about you as a provider? We all have had times in our lives when we have needed love, support, and encouragement. I endeavor to help people on the journey of self-discovery and healing, knowing that what may seem impossible, can be done, one step at a time. I want my patients to know that their journey does not have to be done alone. It takes courage and strength to change and grow, and I am honored to walk along with them. What do you enjoy most about working with patients? I love those moments when people realize that they have courage and strength, that they can "do it" and don't have to stay "stuck.” I love watching my patients discover that there is joy yet to be had, and that they get to actually live in that joy! How does your work improve lives? Behavioral health treatment can help people discover strength, courage, healing, inner peace, decreased stress levels, a sense of accomplishment, and sometimes even physical healing. Patients may also see improvements in their quality of life, relationships, and overall sense of well-being. What are some interesting facts about you? I used to scuba dive. I am a big history buff, especially about WWII, and I have a Frenchton puppy, who is the love of my life. With which community and volunteer organizations are you involved? I support the Human Rights Campaign and am a member of the APA. Would you like to share about your family? I am married and have two dogs. What childhood memory do you have about visiting the doctor? I ran through a glass door at age six, and the plastic surgeon helped me to feel comfortable during a very traumatic time. What else would you like to share with our readers? “May the positive energy of the universe surround you and flow through you, and bring to you peace in your mind, love in your heart, and calm in your spirit.” — Unknown
