Medical Weight Loss

Primary Care
Most people are simply born with one or both nipples inverted, either part of the time or at all times. Other causes can include trauma or scarring, infections, or, in very rare cases, breast cancer. Many women, particularly if it is their first child, experience inverted nipples during pregnancy, and this effect often has no bearing on the woman’s health or ability to breastfeed. If your nipples were previously extending outward and became inverted suddenly or over time, and you are not pregnant, you may wish to discuss this symptom with your primary care physician.
Electrocardiogram
Depending on your physical condition and medical history, you may be required to undergo a mammogram prior to breast reduction surgery. Other testing, such as an electrocardiogram, chest X-rays, or another preoperative evaluation, may also be requested. Laboratory work will need to be completed prior to surgery, to ensure that you are not anemic. Our medical team will ensure that you receive proper instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including information on eating, drinking, smoking, and taking medications and/or herbal supplements. As this is an outpatient surgery, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure, and you may need assistance at home for several days afterwards.

Pregnancy
Labor and Delivery
We encourage women to wait until they’ve finished building their families before considering having tummy tuck surgery. This procedure does not limit your ability to become pregnant or give birth; however, many of the concerns that are treated by a tummy tuck may re-develop as a result of childbirth.

Testicular Cancer
Obesity is the most common cause of gynecomastia and breast enlargement in men, however, changes in hormone levels, rising estrogen levels (the female hormone), or low testosterone levels, as well as certain diseases like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, cirrhosis, and thyroid disease can also cause gynecomastia. The condition can also be caused by certain syndromes, including Klinefelter syndrome, hyperthyroidism, hypogonadism, tumors of the testes, adrenal, or pituitary glands, genetic disorders, or as a side effect of medications like certain inhibitors, spironolactone, calcium channel blockers, diazepam (Valium), cimetidine (Tagamet), anti-androgens, and tricyclic antidepressants, anabolic steroid use, marijuana use, as well as herbals like tea tree oil and illegal drugs like amphetamines and can also cause gynecomastia.

MRI
Mammograms can be effectively performed on breasts with implants, including both saline and silicone styles. A highly qualified radiologist will adjust the technique to provide the best care. In some cases, the breast implant may obstruct the view of the breast tissue, in which case an MRI may be recommended instead. Always be sure and inform your radiologist that you have implants prior to your mammogram so they can be properly prepared for your visit.

As a native of Southern California, Dr. Sohn graduated with honors from Stanford University, where he majored in Biological Sciences. He then earned his MD from the highly respected Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond, where he was awarded numerous scholarships for academic excellence. Dr. Sohn then completed his General Surgery and Plastic Surgery training at the oldest, most established, and highly regarded community-based plastic surgery program in the nation, at GRMERC/Michigan State University. Wound Care
Dr. Sohn performed a Brachioplasty and Tummy Tuck on me in July, 2016. I initially sought out Dr. Sohn for the arm lift but added the tummy tuck at the last minute. Ear Surgery
The recovery experience following ear surgery will depend largely on the technique used during the procedure. In most cases, downtime should be minimal. Older children and adults should be able to return to work within a few days. Younger children, however, may need a few extra days to recover. It’s important for young patients to understand that the ears will be healing for a while, and they should be monitored during play to avoid the risk of injury. A headband may be worn during the daytime for up to a week, and at night for several weeks, to help preserve the results. Any further instructions pertinent to your unique experience will be provided during your consultation and at follow-up appointments.

Thigh Lift

Face Lift

Neck Lift
The surgery typically takes about one hour to complete and can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. This is an outpatient procedure, and you should be able to return home the same day. We recommend that you rest at home for one to two weeks and avoid any strenuous activities, after which you should be able to return to work and social activity. This recovery period may be extended if the browlift was combined with other surgical treatments such as a face and neck lift or eyelid lift. Bruising, swelling, and tenderness are normal, and prescription pain medication will be provided to help manage your discomfort. If your browlift was performed in part to enhance your vision, your insurance may partially cover the cost of treatment. We also offer financing options to help you bring browlift surgery into your budget.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty can be an excellent option for certain patients, but it’s not appropriate for everyone. In some cases, the cause of sagging eyelids may be a heavy brow caused by excess tissue on the forehead. A brow lift may be more effective if our surgeons determine this is the case. Nose Surgery

Body Lift
The circumferential tummy tuck, or lower body lift, is a procedure indicated for individuals who have undergone dramatic weight loss and want to remove excess skin on the flanks, midsection, buttocks, and thighs. During this procedure, an incision is made spanning the circumference of the abdomen to allow the surgeon to tighten skin both above and below the waistline.
Breast Surgery
An outpatient procedure, gender affirming breast surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. You should be able to return home the same day after the surgery. Most patients spend about a week or two away from routine activities while they heal. Swelling, tenderness, bruising, and some discomfort is normal, and we will provide prescription medication to help you manage the pain. You should avoid lifting any objects five pounds or heavier for the first two weeks, and you should avoid strenuous exercise and activity for at least a month. Swelling should dramatically subside after a few months, although some residual inflammation will continue for a while. Final results typically will be visible after about a year.
Otoplasty
Generally speaking, patients should wait until the ear structures have matured before undergoing otoplasty, which usually occurs by age five or six. While cartilage can continue growing throughout life, the increase in size should be minimal after this point. Besides age, factors that determine candidacy include the desire to change the prominence, shape, or size of the ears. During your initial consultation, you can discuss your goals with our skilled surgeon, who will determine if this approach is right for you.
Scar Revision
Dr. Hankins performed my breast augmentation surgery last year and I am very pleased with the results! His staff is so nice and comforting, and he really listened to what I wanted and gave me the perfect results.
