LUNG CA This patient has a history of breast cancer. Chest x-ray showed a spot on the left lung that could be pneumonia. PET showed the lungs to be a second primary site, not mets from the breast. There was no evidence that it had spread to the lymph nodes. CT has 65% accuracy, PET has 92% accuracy in staging lung cancer.

Women with new symptoms such as a lump, nipple discharge, or painÂ in theÂ breast shouldÂ see their doctor to determine if they should have a diagnostic mammogram.Â The mammogram can provide more information to help determine whether or not a biopsy is advisable. Sometimes your doctor will also recommend an ultrasound examination of the breast, which can complement the findings on a mammogram. It is important to remember that most lumps and other symptoms do not turn out to be cancer â€“ even if a biopsy is recommended.
MRI
This technology allows MRI of both breasts simultaneously and offers detailed 3-D imaging. This test is for women who have a strong family history of breast cancer, inconclusive mammogram results, or a diagnosis of breast cancer. MRI assesses the extent of breast cancer.

Mammography
3D Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breasts. The value of mammography lies in its ability to detect cancer in the breast while it is still very small â€“ often too small to be felt and often too small to be detected any other way.Â When breast tissue is x-rayed, it creates an image that may contain tiny calcium deposits called microcalcifications or other subtle signs of cancer. The Hologic 3D Tomosynthesis MammographyÂ system provides a detailed Â image that can detect early breast cancer.Â Â
Computed Tomography
CT stands for â€œcomputed tomography,â€ taken from the Greek word â€œtomosâ€ meaning â€œto cutâ€ or â€œto sliceâ€ . CT uses ordinary X-rays coupled with special detectors and a powerful computer to create images that appear as sections or slices of the body.

Skin Cancer
Other uses of PET-CT include the evaluation of coronary artery disease and cognitive brain disorders. As additional positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are developed, it is expected that more uses for PET will be employed in the future.
