The original white-washed maple doors, drawer fronts, and mouldings were discarded. The original maple boxes were painted in place, before new factory-painted moldings, doors, and drawer fronts were installed. The lower level tile countertops were replaced with engineered quartz and a new full height splash was selected to blend with the original upper level tile countertops and tile floors. This kitchen is a great example of what can be done by blending old and new.

Bathroom Remodeling
Kitchen & bath remodeling is the most intricate type of residential remodeling because it involves many complex systems, all in very close proximity to each other and tailored to suit specific users.
Flooring
Langdon and Jamie started the design process, visiting the showroom and sharing with us their long-awaited plans to redo the main level of their 1959 tri-level home. We learned that they both were nearing retirement from science and engineering careers and were looking forward to spending time in their home after they retired. There are orchards and vineyards on the property that they farm. The couple wanted to capture views of the land from the kitchen, dining and living room, open concept space, they hoped could be achieved by removing a sightline blocking wall that was between the kitchen and living and dining rooms. It is a working farm so the design needed to be practical and have durable easy-care flooring and finishes. Transitional styling and more modern and updated layout will accommodate family and friend gatherings along with daily meal preparation.
Tile Installation

A trip up into the attic revealed that, even though there was a ceiling height change, the roof trusses spanned the area, making the wall between the dining room and kitchen non-load bearing. Armed with this information, we recommended removing the entire wall, along with removing the top of the wall surrounding the stairway. Other recommendations included widening the chase enclosing the fireplace chimney and adding an open shelf unit to tie the fireplace to the outside wall.

Insulation
The bath originally was on the outside wall of the house and had a window. The house had since been added on to and the window covered over. The original insulation was still in place. Because there was now living space on the other sides, we left some of the insulation for sound mitigation. The cast iron drain system was quite deep in the ground and corrosion had taken it's toll. Much of the cast iron crumbed as it was removed. The surrounding soil was literally the only thing holding it together in some places.
