Root Canal Treatment

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Take your time. After the surgery is complete, you will need some time to recover fully. It won’t hurt if you ask for two weeks off school or work to heal properly. Afterward, your Salem orthodontist will continue their work to straighten your teeth.

In some cases, surgery might not be necessary, so you must discuss your case with your orthodontist and another specialist. Maxillofacial surgeons are the only dental health professionals certified to perform various types of orthognathic surgery.
Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a dental specialty that differs from Orthodontics. Before we can say anything about extraction of teeth, understand that if extractions are involved in an orthodontic case, it’s always harder for the doctor. Orthodontists want to avoid extractions just as much as you do! Having said that, extractions are still necessary in between 20-30% of cases (nationwide average according to surveys by the American Association of Orthodontists).

General Dentistry
After graduating dental school, Dr. John knew he wanted to be an orthodontist but wasn’t quite ready for more schooling. He decided to join the Army in order to hone his dental skills and for a little bit of adventure, like they promised on TV. (Mainly he wanted a paycheck and a chance to live in Europe.) His first duty station was Ft. Campbell, KY, where he underwent extensive advanced training in the general dentistry residency program (AEGD). The Army wasn’t quite ready to send him to Europe. They decided to send him to Korea for a year first. After Korea Dr. John finally made it to Germany, where he commanded a dental clinic in Heilbronn (south of Frankfort).
