NEVER use David Gunderson of Marine Diagnostics Florida, in Jupiter as a surveyor. We were involved with David for a recent survey and his inexperience and incompetence caused the whole deal to be a disaster. Prior to David’s involvement there was a very amicable deal between the buyer and the seller. And despite the survey showing nothing major wrong with the boat, David singlehandedly destroyed the deal. David admitted when he came to survey the boat that he had no idea about a boat of this calibre. This became clearly evident as the day went on and it became obvious his real business was fixing outboard engines. At times he seemed confused about what he was looking at and kept referring to his “list” to work out what to do next. He would refer to something as being regulation then amend it to say “maybe it is only a recommendation?? He broke things on the boat and had no idea how to work the equipment he brought such as the thermal imaging camera having to refer to the user manual prior to being able to operate it. After 11 hours he then told us it would be over a week before he could get the survey report to us. (This was despite having the next two days free). He then struggled to come up with a value for the boat and ended up valuing it so far below the market that finance was cancelled. In the end the seller walked away stressed, frustrated and out of pocket, the buyer walked away stressed, frustrated and out of pocket with the only winner being David who got paid upfront. We would never use his services again. If you are looking for a good surveyor save yourself some grief and keep looking!!
