Dr. James L. Walters is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed residency specialty training in pediatrics at Riley Children’s Hospital. He is board certified in pediatrics and began his practice on the northeast side of Indianapolis in 1983 when he joined the Community Health Network medical staff. To better serve his patients and families, Dr. Walters established the Kid’s Express Clinic, an after-hours “children only” urgent care clinic, the first of its kind in Indianapolis. Dr. Walters is a member of Community Physician Network. At Community Health Network, he is past associate medical director for infant hospice, a program offered through Community Home Health. Dr. Walters has also served multiple tenures as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Community Hospitals and as the pediatric representative to the Executive Committee of the Community Hospitals medical staff. As a volunteer Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at IU School of Medicine, Dr. Walters is involved with teaching medical students and pediatric resident physicians. He has also served as the only pediatrician on the Indianapolis Medical Society Commission on Professional Affairs, which evaluates and makes recommendations to Indianapolis physicians—and, if necessary, to the State Attorney General—regarding physician ethics and professional behavior. Dr. Walters loves all water sports, boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking and camping. He is a certified SCUBA diver and has taken small powerboats to many places in the Bahamas and Florida Keys. He also has his private pilot’s license for small aircraft. He enjoys riding his Harley around the state when time and weather permit and is active in his church on the north side of Indianapolis. When he is not “fixing” kids at the office, he loves to fix things at home. He claims that there is almost nothing he can't “fix” and considers himself a decent carpenter, plumber, electrician and car, boat, and motorcycle mechanic. He has raised three kids (both boys and girls) and is quite familiar with all stages of growth, development, school issues, behavior issues, and “drama and crisis management” from both professional and personal experience. With his many years of parenting experience, he “feels your pain” :)
