Veneers
At Ziman Orthodontics, we believe in what we do and this goes all the way to the top. As a child. Dr. Ziman's teeth were stained by sulfa drugs used to treat earaches. The result was a yellowish gray tinge which progressively darkened over the years. While he did not require braces as a child, in preparation for the veneers to cover up the discolored teeth, an 18 month orthodontic treatment was undertaken to correct a deep overbite, align the tipped bicuspids and space out the upper undersized lateral incisors. The before/after orthodontic pictures as well as the newly veneered teeth pictures are presented here.,Many of our adult patients would benefit from a combination orthodontic and veneer type approach to rebuild/restore their smiles... just like Dr. Ziman. Your dentist is a great resource to discuss veneers.
Crowns
Dr. Ziman and his staff are very professional and work together as a team. I was quite concerned due to the fact that I was a mid – age adult and getting braces for the first time. After my initial consultation with Dr. Ziman I knew I was in the right place. Dr. Ziman explained the process each step of the way. I showed up at an appointment at the wrong time, and they worked me in. I had several crowns on my teeth, and keeping brackets on them was a challenge. I’m pretty sure I was the patient that had the most orthodontic appointments in my 2.5 years of treatment. Dr. Ziman and his staff have a great sense of humor and continued moving forward with my treatment plan. I was very pleased with the end result. Orthodontics is a constantly evolving field filled with potential new technologies. Ziman Orthodontics approaches these technologies with skepticism until they are proven, with our number one goal being long-term patient satisfaction and success. You may have heard these buzzwords during your orthodontic research; we will define these technologies and share Ziman Orthodontics' view on their potential for success.
Invisalign Orthodontics
The “holy grail” of patients, particularly adults, in need of orthodontic therapy to align teeth or correct bites would be with an “invisible” technique capable of achieving the accuracy, predictability and cost effectiveness of conventional braces on the front of the teeth. Tooth colored ceramic braces provide a much improved though still visible appearance with results equal in quality to conventional metallic braces. Clear aligners (Invisalign for example) represent a much advertised and popular removable appliance technique which studies show are considerably less accurate and predictable than conventional braces and where the relative value received for the price is in my view less than desirable. There have been multiple attempts over the years at creating a lingual system that is consistent in quality and predictability as compared to the front braces. Their development required overcoming multiple obstacles including high variability of lingual tooth anatomy as compared to the front, smaller distances between brackets on the lingual, the inability of doctors to accurately create complex archwires with multiple three dimensional bends chairside and adhesive technology capable of keeping the lingual braces attached in the demanding oral environment. Our past experiences with lingual systems were unsatisfactory to the point where we referred out those insistent on using it because we were not pleased with the outcomes.
Braces
Conventional metallic braces are made from stainless steel alloyed with trace amounts of other metals and are considered a mainstay of orthodontic therapy. Ceramic braces have been available for over 20 years representing considerable esthetic improvement without any compromise of a quality result. Most adults and some younger patients prefer the low key appearance of ceramic.

Teeth Whitening
We generally recommend BOTH with the removable one worn nights in most cases and the fixed or bonded retainers attached behind (not visible from the front) the upper and/or lower front teeth for many years...15 or longer in many instances. See our “Long Term Followup” gallery. Removable retainers can also serve as tooth whitening trays using whatever product(s) the patient prefers. See “Truth telling about Tooth Whitening” article on our website. Perhaps half of our adult patients these days were treated elsewhere in their teens but experienced relapse movements of their teeth as adults requiring retreatment. This can be avoided in most cases with bonded retainers. Once orthodontic treatment is completed, periodic retainer checkups are complimentary indefinitely though retainer repair/ replacement entails a modest charge if needed.
