I hired Owen's Paving in Fall 2017 to pave my driveway (South Hadley resident). The short story is that Owen, the owner himself, and his crew arrived unannounced on an unscheduled day after specifically requesting he tell us when the work would be done so that we could be home to oversee it. I happened to be home that day with my baby. He arrived and got right to work without checking in. I immediately noticed that he began the work IN THE WRONG AREA. By the time I noticed the mistake and asked him to correct it, he had already begun work and was annoyed that I was asking him to fix it. He was rude and insisted he had “several other jobs to get to”. But in a huff he agreed to fix the mistake. About an hour later I noticed he was still in the wrong area. When I went out and asked him to correct it again he argued with me and finally shouted in my face (while I was holding my baby in my arms), got in his truck and screamed for his crew to pack up. I was in shock both by how I was treated but also by the fact that he left the driveway torn up and half prepared for paving. My husband and I called several times and never heard back. I’ve never written a review before but this experience was so horrible and upsetting that I wanted to make sure other people knew the kind of contractor he is. And it wasn’t done by a disgruntled employee, it was behavior done by the owner himself to a young woman holding a baby. And even if he was having a bad day and realized his mistake/poor behavior, we never received an apology or follow up call.

After having other contractors come out to look at the partial work done and provide an estimate to complete it, they noted that the work had been poorly done anyway and the subbase was about 2” short of appropriate thickness for paving. So in retrospect it was a blessing that the job was never completed because it would have been garbage in a year or two anyway!
