Vaccination
During this visit, your pet will be thoroughly examined by a doctor and any issues you have about your pet's health will be discussed. By knowing more about your pet's lifestyle we can make recommendations about keeping him healthy. We don't push services or products on you, and frequently offer home or pet store remedies. We try to minimize the number of vaccinations your pet receives based on his risk of exposure. Many of our vaccines are now approved for 2 or 3 year intervals. We do recommend a yearly heartworm and fecal check for parasites. This is especially needed if heartworm preventative is not given regularly.

Veterinary Ophthalmology
Dr. Dolan was born and raised in Richmond. She completed her undergraduate studies with a degree in history from Columbia University in New York. She returned to Virginia to attend veterinary school at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, where she graduated in 2015. Following vet school, she moved to Indiana and completed a rotating internship at Purdue University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Dolan’s special interests include emergency medicine and critical care, internal medicine, and ophthalmology. Dr. Dolan lives in Richmond with her husband, Dr. Jay Dolan, and their two young children. She enjoys cooking, HIIT classes, and spending time with family and friends. They share their home with rescue pups Benny and Major, a cat named Phineas, and crested geckos Shaka and Mooney.

Dr. Riley received his B.S. in Animal Science from Virginia Tech in 1980. He later went on to get his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech in 1986. In his veterinary career, he has treated a wide range of pets, from Goochland deer dogs to West End couch potatoes. “My biggest goal in working with clients is to determine the type of care they want for their pets. Some people want human level care with ultrasounds, CT scans, and chemotherapy, while others prefer comfort care. I’ll help you decide what you want to do and make you feel comfortable with your decision.”

Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Dolan received his B.A. in neuroscience from Middlebury College in 2008 and a master's degree in Biomedical Science from Colorado State University in 2009. He completed his DVM from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. His veterinary career began as a mixed animal practitioner in rural Pearisburg, VA where his daily routine centered around cattle, horses, small ruminants, dogs, and cats. He then moved to Richmond in 2016 and continued working with dogs and cats. When asked about his veterinary interests he said, “orthopedic surgery and preventive care. I very much enjoy the daily interactions and conversations with clients on how best to care for their pets.”

Laboratory Services
We have in-house laboratory equipment that allows us to perform simple blood chemistries, heartworm tests and stool checks in a matter of minutes. For more advanced diagnostics, we send the samples to Antech Diagnostics, Michigan State, Texas A&M, and others. For many samples we receive the results the following day.
X-Ray
Microchipping
Microchips. It is a simple prcedure similar to getting a shot. We implant a chip with an identification number under your pet's skin. We register that number along with your personal information in the company's computer base. If your pet is lost, most shelters and veterinarians have scanners that can read the number off the chip and the company can be contacted to find the owner's information.
