Occasional bruxism may not result in damage to the teeth or jaw. However, chronic teeth grinding can cause serious dental issues. In some cases, grinding can result in tooth fracture, loosening of teeth, or the loss of teeth. Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy is usually performed when a patient has severe gum disease that has not responded well to scaling and root planing or other periodontal procedures and is a procedure that is typically provided by a doctor.
Periodontal Surgery
If there is any indication of gum disease, you might need to visit a periodontist for gum disease treatment. If your gums are not in good health, a non-surgical scaling and root planing procedure or more intensive treatments such as periodontal surgery may be necessary. Your team of oral professionals will need to prepare your teeth and gums for the reconstruction phases.

Oral Surgery

Jaw Surgery
Flap Surgery
Osseous surgery, or flap surgery, is usually performed when periodontal pockets around a tooth (or teeth) have not responded to other treatments. Also known as pocket depth reduction, this procedure is performed in order to create a clean environment around the tooth so that it can be retained rather than lost. The goal of osseous surgery is to reduce or eliminate periodontal pocketing. Osseous surgery is generally recommended after other treatments have been explored and attempted, and is usually performed when pocket depths have worsened over time or have not responded to other therapies.
Gum Surgery
LANAPÂ® is most often recommended to patients with moderate to severe gum disease. This is because it allows us to remove bacteria and infected tissue without causing harm to the surrounding bone, teeth, and healthy tissue. While traditional gum surgery uses a scalpel to remove the infection, LANAPÂ® utilizes a new technology called the PerioLaseÂ® MVP-7â„¢. This is a new type of dental laser that operates at a frequency which affects only the diseased areas and leaves the teeth, bone, and healthy tissue untouched. Not only does this minimize pain and discomfort, it also reduces the chances of further complications.
Osseous Surgery
Osseous surgery (or flap surgery) is performed on patients who have moderate or advanced periodontal disease. Typically, flap surgery is performed after scaling and root planing has been attempted but has not been successful in treating existing periodontal disease.
Tooth Extractions
Dental extractions are performed for a variety of reasons, including tooth decay, injury, infection, and for orthodontic treatment. Extractions are a relatively common procedure in most dental offices. The difficulty of the procedure varies depending on the case and the patient, however anesthesia is used to numb the area and prevent discomfort during the procedure.
Ridge Augmentation
Ridge augmentation is a common procedure performed to help recreate the natural contour of the gums. Often, after a tooth is removed, the bone in the jaw will begin to deteriorate and recede. The height and width of the socket, which was supported by the tooth, will begin to shrink after the tooth is removed. Many patients will eventually develop an indentation in the gums where the tooth used to be as a result of tooth and bone loss.
Bone Grafting
