Dental Examination
At your child’s first visit, we will review his or her medical and dental history and perform a comprehensive examination. For your peace of mind (and your child’s!) we welcome you to remain in the treatment room for the entire appointment. Families are welcome to stay with their children during any visit.
X-rays
Digital or panoramic x-rays when indicated. We will begin your visit by taking a series of digital x-rays. These x-rays are larger, clearer and more detailed than traditional film x-rays, allowing us to get a better picture of your oral health almost immediately. (They don’t need time to “develop.”) They are also safer for you, offering a significant decrease in your exposure to radiation. They are also safer for the environment. Digital x-rays do not need chemicals or paper to be developed, so there is no waste to dispose of.
Oral Cancer Screening
At your first visit, we will review your medical and dental history and perform a comprehensive examination. The examination will include an oral cancer screening, cavity detection, periodontal (gum) exam, evaluation of the bite and screening for jaw joint problems. We will do a cosmetic evaluation and discuss your concerns and desires related to your dental appearance. X-rays and study casts of your mouth, if indicated, will be taken at this time. If treatment needs are not complex, we will discuss our findings and possible solution options for you at this visit. For more complex treatment recommendations, we may ask you to reschedule for a second consult visit with the doctor.

Teeth Cleaning
At Chesheim Dental Associates, we recommend that our patients visit for a thorough dental exam and cleaning at least every six months.
Fluoride Treatment
We give children and young adults a fluoride treatment at every visit. We also treat adults who we deem at risk. For adults, we use the fluoride varnish and ClinPro, a prescription toothpaste, to protect teeth against cavities.
Dental Sealants
When your child’s molars come in, we recommend protecting them with dental sealants. Sealants provide a clear, strong barrier to protect children’s teeth from decay and prevent cavities. The sealant is “painted” on the molars, and then dried by special light. Sealants last for several years and provide unequalled cavity protection.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Tooth-colored fillings (also called white fillings) are made of composite resin and provide stronger, safer restorations for your teeth. They require less tooth preparation (i.e. drilling!) than metal fillings do, leaving more of your natural tooth structure intact.
Veneers
When it comes to improving the appearance of a smile or restoring the size, shape or color of a tooth, nothing compares with the beauty and efficiency of porcelain veneers. They’re a cosmetic and restorative dentist ’s best tool for both form and function.
Crowns
Onlays – like crowns – are used for large restorations. They restore inside the cusp of the tooth and also extend over one or more sides of the tooth. (In fact, an onlay can be used as a dental crown.) An onlay can often be used to repair only the damaged portion of the tooth, leaving much more of the original tooth structure intact. Because of their size, onlays are made of strong material, usually porcelain. They are conservative tooth restorations that require far less drilling than metal fillings.
Bridges
If you’re missing one or several consecutive teeth, a dental bridge is the ideal solution. A permanent appliance, a dental bridge fills the space left by a missing tooth (or teeth). It is held in place by two crowns (abutments) that are placed on the healthy teeth adjacent to the empty space left by missing teeth. In between the two crowns is a porcelain tooth (or teeth) that “bridge” the empty area, replacing the missing tooth (or teeth). The bridge doesn’t require any special treatment. You just brush and floss like you would your natural teeth. Dental bridges can last a lifetime if taken care of properly.
Dental Bonding
If a chipped tooth... a gap between your teeth... or stained teeth are affecting your confidence and keeping you from smiling, consider cosmetic dental bonding.
Restorative Dentistry
If a chipped tooth, gaps between your teeth, stained teeth or any other imperfection in your smile has you feeling self-conscious, consider cosmetic or restorative dentistry. There are a variety of treatments available to enhance or restore your smile to health and beauty.

Root Canal Treatment
A dental crown, also known as a dental cap, is a custom-made restoration that fits completely over the entire tooth, repairing and strengthening a tooth that has fractured, has a large cavity, has undergone root canal therapy, or has an old filling that has failed. Crowns can also be used for cosmetic enhancements, improving the appearance of a tooth that is discolored or misshapen.

Deep Cleaning
Our practice uses the Cavitron for advanced hygiene treatment. This hand-held tool offers a safe and effective alternative to traditional gum cleaning methods. It uses high frequency ultrasonic waves and water to gently clean above and below the gum line. So gentle, it can provide deep cleaning and gum therapy, many times without the need to become numb.

Dentures
If you have missing teeth or are tired of wearing dentures, consider dental implants. Dental implants are permanent fixtures that replace both the tooth and the root.

Dr. Cutler received his dental degree and completed his Periodontics Residency at Temple University. He is certified in Periodontics and Dental Implants. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and served as a Trustee for the American Academy of Periodontology. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Dental Associations and a former member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry. He is also a member of the Academy of Osseointegration and the Pennsylvania Society of Periodontists.

As part of your child’s regular dental care, we will monitor how the teeth are coming in, note any alignment or palate problems, and recommend treatment if appropriate. Invisalign Orthodontics
Dr. Dobbins received his degree in Dental Medicine from Temple University. He has pursued postgraduate training seminars from the Dawson Academy, the Spears Institute and John Cranham. He is certified in Invisalign® and Nitrous Oxide. Dr. Dobbins is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Rivera received his degree in Dental Surgery from Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. He went on to complete a General Practice Residency at Abington Memorial Hospital, a division of the Jefferson Health Network. He was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. He and his wife currently reside in the town of Springfield, Delaware County. Dr. Rivera is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
